Modding resources.

Alias's Photo Alias 22 Feb 2007

Due to many people asking what extracts what, what makes what, etc. I've created this as a reference.
Generals and Zero Hour
File management:
FinalBig - Needed to extract and compress files into .big files.
XCC Mixer 1.40 - Needed to extract stuff from inside the .BIG Files,

Cameo Mapping:
Generals Cameo Mapper - Needed to "map" those pesky cameo portraits.

Texture editors:
DDS converter - Needed to convert DDS files to be editable.
Photoshop or GIMP - Needed to edit textures, cameo's and the sort. Gimp requires GTK.

Modelling:
Gmax and RenX - Needed to edit/create models. 3DSMax can also be used.
Coolfiles W3D Importer - Needed to "IMPORT" W3D models into RenX, Script works for 3dsmax 7.0 too.
BFME & C&C SDK - Heres a new-ish Re-release of the RenX For 3DSMAX, Nifty shaders for BFME II mods included.

Mapping Tools:
This tool imports elevation data from an 8bit greyscale raw bitmap image to an uncompressed C&C Generals map file. -More Details after clicking...
WAK Editor - used to edit waves for maps.

And the most needed resource is practice. :)
Happy modding!

They are mostly direct links to the downloads, no need to go through fussy menus, except for the 3DSMax trial.

EDIT: Updated some of the links.

It's sort of like an upgrade for gmax so that you can edit aero hour's w3d files (the models). About the code gmax is dead AFAIK so that may be the reason :S

I think this can be useful :
http://www.bluehellproductions.com/forum/i...showtopic=16661
Here, you can find some plugins for 3ds max 2008 (work on 2012) that allow you to import W3D into 3ds.
So, you can import a W3D into 3ds, modify it, import into Gmax, and export into W3D.
Otherwise, it allow you to import the file without modification, witch is not the same as others possibility (ex : .obj exporter for Gmax) witch generally do not export animation, texture, make the model in on block...

Also, there is a wnd editor on this page :
http://www.cncden.co...s_scripts.shtml
it is included into "Generals Editing Utilities".

You don't need to import into Gmax, there are export scripts for 3ds too. They are in the Battle for Middle Earth 2 Mod SDK, but they only work with 3ds7 and 8 IIRC.
