You should give the signature the same background as your Avatar has, And maybe add some shadows to the render, for a better realism. It might look better like that.

Its just a gap sig i am going to make a better one soon .

That nuke sig was getting old so i wipped a new sig , this is just a gap sig while i make a better one.

Leaf through the collection of tutorials we have on the forum. Tutorials can do wonders .

Vader seems depressed, poor guy. Your sig has a nice comic book feel, but I do have to agree with Warbz. Making it glossy will give it better appeal.

As to how to make it glossy, i wouldnt have a clue as i have never even heard of paint.net.

Is there a bevel and emoss option?

The sig you made for your friend could use some effects similar to your monkey avatar, but other than that, it's fairly simple, which isn't always bad.

Your sig reminds me of The Gorillaz. Again, it's simple, but because it looks like something from The Gorillaz, it pulls off "simple" really well.
