I hope Petroglyph does a good job on this...

One thing to note, though, is that the devs are looking into ways to change the team colors, which makes me happy. Right now, the units look like they took a dip in a paint bucket before heading into battle.

So, Petroglyph, how big do you think your ePeenis is with 51 players on a lag infested map filled with moving lumps of playdough?

/yet to be convinced

Edit Y =/= i

EditEdit: mhmk, interesting concept if nothing else.

Who says it will be lag infested? World of Warcraft runs fine doesn't it?
I think the premise is excellent, i just hope the actual game behind the MMO factor is decent.
Looks ok so far :sly:
It has my attention.

Alright, since I had worked on modding a Petroglyph Game for three goddamn years. Here's what I have to say.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

There were so many flaws with EaW, FoC, and UAW that I seriously laughed my fucking ass off when I watched the video. Sure, it looks epic, but Petroglyph has a shit ton of bugs and all that and horribly laggy multiplayer to recap for. Fucking hell, Universe at War was DEAD on Day Two. DAY TWO, DAY TWO, I don't even think I know of a game that's died that fast besides UaW!

I. Am. Not. Impressed.

I swear to god Kalo, if you start a flame war there will be hell to pay.

On the game, I find it eery how close the visual style is to Red Alert 3. We'll simply have to wait and see how it plays out though.

I was not trying to start any flame war, it's just my honest opinion. But if you played EaW or FoC or...god forbid, UaW, you'd probably get it. They were all really great ideas but horribly executed.

Petroglyphs only redeeming quality is they would actually talk to Mod leaders and if we had questions, they'd answer them as best they could. But I can honestly say the games reception might have had something to do with being published by SEGA (Who decided it was a bad idea to publish UAW) and LucasArts (Rushes the games they make mostly.)

There is nothing wrong with EaW nor FoC, taking into account it is the space battles that matter the most. The ground forces were generic and the maps weren't very well designed.

Also, what the heck, you are ''laughing your ass off at the video'' because ''Their previous games sucked''? This looks completely different from what they did before. It reminds me of MAG, that other FPS game that tries to bring 200+ gamers together on the PS3 The flaw of that game is that, with developing the netcode and possiblities, the actual gameplay quality of that game lacked a little bit. I fear the same thing for this one. With more emphasis on scale and many players, how will the individual experience come out. I like the idea of a more free-roam RTS game where you can choose your battles and you aren't under pressure by an enemy that is, clearly, out there to kill the specific you.

The CG trailer was nice however it does not have the quality of CG trailers that we are used to. It looks rather nostalgic (in fact, it reminds me of previous CnC CG trailers for TS and RA2) which is a good trait. At least, if their trailer may not be up there with amazing quality, it sure has atmosphere.

The reason Universe at War was dead on Day Two, was their implementation of paid multiplayer for their RTS game. Universe at War doesn't have a terribly low metascore (77 in fact, above average for RTS, and there are no reviews below a score of six, which rules out the game ''being complete crap'') as your post would suggest and the reason for that is by many reviewers that the game is a good multiplayer game. However CM and Petroglyph made a horrible choice in a pay to play model for a new game in a branch of gaming that it has never been introduced and probably will hardly be accepted.

UaW is generally viewed as superior to games like the latest CnC installments when it comes down to multiplayer. However the devs killed it before it could take off while at the same time delivering a very bugged release version. They should know that the release version is essential for developing a general opinion about the game. It is very bad when you start off asking money for a bugged release. I hope they learned and make this game a better game. The RTS genre is rather thinned out lately (and will remain so, I think StarCraft 2 may be the only big RTS release we will see this year) so they really should take their time for this one.

I feel it's best to actually explain why I don't have any faith in this game, at the moment I look like a mentally incapable FPS tard. Brace for wall of text :P.

EaW and FoCs space aspect, is actually very cool! Its the one aspect of EaW and FoC me and Nick could never find out how to improve (Minus aesthetically) in FX Mod. It wasn't god awfully slow unlike their land battles. Which lagged more then space. I would retract my statements about me saying the previous games sucked, but I didn't say that at all Trivmvirate.

Overall, it's a good RTS game (EaW/FoC) that feels like it could have been expanded upon, but a good amount of SW games feel like that to me. (Minus Dark Forces 2)

Truthfully? The trailer and the whole premise does look epic, as I did state previously, but I have played both UaW and EaW online with more then just me and another player. It was god awfully laggy, which is saddening, I enjoyed playing with my modding buddies on 1v1s but we could barely play when we tried to go beyond that.

That's why I have my doubts, their previous games lagged beyond two to three players (And we all have great PCs, and we turned it on low as well) to the point that it was absolutely unplayable, so you've got some fifty odd players on this game and I'm immediately thinking "This won't work at all." If they do release it and it doesn't lag at all, I'll probably get it.

Yes, the previous games did have flaws, the most obvious one was the games targeting restriction, what I mean is the AA turrets, for example, normally don't fire on anything but air units. until you tell them to, the AA guns were actually more effective than the Antivehicle and Antiinfantry turrets you could build. I could never find a way for a unit to absolutely under no circumstances attack units it wasn't meant for. The damage it could do was easily adjustable via the modifier code that allowed certain damage types to have multipliers of your choice versus different armor types, I'll never get why they didn't adjust this in one of the patches they released.

The other notable flaw was more redundancy than an actual flaw, in space you could target engine HPs to disable ships. Useful in GC when you don't want certain ships retreating, but the Empire has this ship called the Immobilizer which turns on a gravity well, disabling retreat options. Cool right? the only problem was the ship was basically paper thin, and died if you coughed on it essentially.

The other problem was with the Consortium for FoC, overpowered and the only faction that could really put up with their bullshit was the Galactic Empire, and even then you had to be an A-Game player to do it right. A hilarious tactic was to take Defilers, who had an ability to lay remote control bombs on enemies, and even your own units. Now there's units that can cloak, so you could just get five defilers, one cloaking transport, and just kill the enemy that way.

The turrets the ZC had were so powerful that it pretty much allowed this, and you could do this pretty early game. There's many more, but I don't think most will care to read about them.

I suppose these aren't exactly flaws, so much as they are bad design decisions. And I also suppose my original post wasn't really needed, I suppose a small "I'm not impressed" would suffice. But I just really don't have any faith in EoN after what I've experienced for the past four years with Petroglyphs games and even the community it has on its forums.

What you say about UaW being a buggy release is true, I remember one of the walkers was unkillable at some points (Randomly occurring I think), one of the HPs in order to get to its cores, was unable to be destroyed. I mean I thought UaW was pretty fun to play once you got past the GFWL. But it was hard to actually maintain a connection, or even find a server. So there was little point in actually trying to play it at that point.

Revival from heaven! This game is shaping up nice and will be Free to Play! http://www.endofnati...me/free-to-play

My dreams have come true, when it's realeased we should all gather up and kick some ass in Co-Op :P

Edit: GamesCon trailer here:

They've added both infantry and controlable air units since the last time anyone checked this thread, which is great. Can't have a good RTS without air and infantry.

Both of those games are set in a medival era, working air units into them is more or less impossible. My point was that you can't make a game with just different tanks, you need some diversity between the classes, something that makes it stand out compared to the others.

I'd disagree as well - Z is set in the future an IS based around just different tanks. Conversely, its sequel, which HAD air units, was ruined.

I've been following this game for sometime and it looks promising to me. They also announced that this is going to be free to play and the monthly subscribers will not advantages play wise. I think i'll decide more after the beta.

I will grant you that it looks considerably more polished in the latest published video at least. Still not enough to at this stage to pique my interest. But I'll keep watching.
