This has been a question that has been nagging at me for a while now. With vehicles such as the Buzzsaw Paladin and Swordion tank capable of so much bloodletting potential, it has been suggested that blood effects be added to the mod before. I wasn't sure at first, but maybe this could be a decent addition to the mod. Red Alert 3 has this too, so this wouldn't be out of place in a C&C game.

What could be added:
  • Low Effects- Blood sprays from when infantry get hit by weapons except lasers, which cauterize wounds instantly.
  • High Effects - Infantry sliced from melee or special weaponry with some blood trails. May also include blood pools from crushing or Pancaked death types.
This isn't set in stone, things can be added or removed afterwards, but for the sake of getting some early feedback, I made those two choices based on what I would end up doing first should blood effects be added to the mod.

There are a few positives and negatives to this that I can come up with off the top of my head:

Positives:

  • Allows for more visual impact from special melee weapons such as the Buzzsaw Paladin
  • Flying infantry parts wouldn't make much sense without it.
  • Can replace that stupid infantry damage FX that kicks up smoke and dirt for no apparent reason.
Negatives:
  • High levels of it wouldn't be as suitable for younger players, but this is a "T" rated game in the USA though.

Should this be added to the mod? And if so, to what level? I will not go to the extreme like in Contra, but a few splatters here and there couldn't hurt things, could it? The details can be worked out later regarding how many of these effects are added, but I'd like a little feedback before I commit to a decision regarding this subject.

Well, I think you can look at Contra mod for some good blood types. With melee units here we should introduce sliced infantry to.

Sorry, to be anal, but they actually don't. They don't have recoil either. Lasers as a whole, at least the military-grade ones they're working on now, are nastier as a whole than any chemical-based projectile weapon, although your opinion might differ on that.

Though this probably belongs in the Tech section.

As for blood effects, I'd say go ahead. Might want to keep it relatively low for the people with less than stellar computers, however. Or have an option somewhere between both.

hmm... not a bad idea, but will this conflicting with the Tomatohawk effects?

I don't think this will be an issue with lower spec computers. There won't be explosions that reduce infantry into 56 individual objects which trigger two particle effects each. Most weapons probably won't have any special effects besides the normal blood sprays when infantry are hit, but special case weapons like the Buzzsaw Paladin will be the ones that use the slightly heavier effects.

Vehicles by default turn into a hull object when destroyed, make a small particle effect of their own, and release a couple debris objects when destroyed, occasionally with particle trails. This mod will make infantry turn into 1-3 objects when destroyed, make minor particle effects of their own, as well as a couple trails if needed, and that's only in special cases. Unless you nuke a cluster of 200 infantry, (which would lag the game by itself anyways) there shouldn't be any lag issues.

Not sure if ketchup packets would be a viable option though. They are very small, especially in the scale of this game, and probably wouldn't be recognizable from any reasonable distance. It would make make infantry randomly exude small white things, which you probably wouldn't recognize at all until you zoom in to the maximum level.

Multicolored blood could be easily made I think, but I'm not sure how and where I'd make it fit in.

Regarding lasers, I was thinking of lightsabers when I made that statement, but maybe they will stay for now, not sure. The recoil is going to be removed though, I have the INI file open right now actually. It doesn't make sense when the laser is coming from where the barrel was, but the barrel isn't where it used to be anymore, making the laser float in empty space weirdly.

Well, they won't fly apart into small pieces on impact, scattering parts and whatnot everywhere. All they do is fall to the ground and bounce. At least they would, but for some reason the game won't actually let me fire that general's power, and I can't figure out why...

personally I would not add blood spray, but simply leave a ketchup puddle on the ground whenever infantry dies.
(the body would burst into pieces and spray across the battlefield regardless the weapon hitting though)

I don't know if the ketchup would really be distinguishable from blood, as both are pretty much about the same color, except blood is slightly darker. I should know, I sliced a pretty nasty cut in my finger when working with 17/32" brass tubing yesterday. You could say it is ketchup, but if someone hasn't been told that, they would most likely think it is blood anyways.

Not if you include a broken ketchup bottle or ketchup packets in the dead infantry model or whatever.

Isn't this a crazy mod? I think that it should be something silly such as cogs, springs, or confetti. Blood is serious stuff. Confetti is silly stuff.

Is it possible to add extra features to the flying parts?
If you want something really crazy you can let the parts act like fireworks.
The infantry will explode and the parts will fly everywhere exploding in nice happy colours. xD
