As a few people know, I've recently gotten into a forum game called Pixel Wars that's gotten me into spriting. It's addictive as hell and I thought it'd be fun to maybe set up a few games or a sub-forum for it on FS. Of course, a lot of people probably don't know what it is so I thought I'd make an information thread and see if anyone wants to maybe join in for our own version here.

In short, Pixel/Picture Wars is is a game where two or more players use pre-drawn characters (from a sprite sheet) to fight against each other by moving around their army on a pre-drawn map.
The army and the map are both normally made in GIMP, Photoshop, MS Paint, or any other graphics editing program out there. Due to the fact that your only constraint is skill and your own imagination, it's possible to have just about anything you want.

There's a few rules and such for it, but I'll post those up if it actually gets going. (I had them here before but it made the thread far too long).

Here's two of the armies I use and a battle I'm in if anyone wants an example.

I can't sprite for shit - if there were pre-drawn armies lying around I'd be tempted should I have the time :duh:
For there can be no death without life.

I'll for sure have some templates and tutorials if we decide to go anywhere with this. It'd most definitely need its own sub-forum. Spriting for PW is very easy since you really only need three or for colours for your units.

Doubt it'd need it's own subforum mate. Always better to see how things go before we do new subs. We learnt that after the less than successful attempts with Fallout, DoW etc.

I'll be looking into making some passable attempts at some sprites tonight, to see how I get on. Even if they're just for others to use etc. I need a new art project.

Nice work mate. Will be getting to mine later tonight. Might be worth someone digging Centrics' old stuff out and resizing. He made some pretty special RotR ones iirc

I remember the good old days when I was spending countless hours drawing armys in ms paint and made them fight each other...

It's much more fun to do it with other people. Also, sprite templates and stuff incoming, I'm working on them right now.

Edit: Finished my template, going out to find some tutorials now.

Double post for tutorials!

Useful resources!

Colour Scheme Designed - Good for shading.

The Blueprints - A useful site when making vehicles.

A tip of personal advice, try not to get frustrated when making something. Chances are it may just need a different colour or it could even be that you're too zoomed in. A lot of sprites look better at normal viewing size.

It also helps to listen to music.

Amazing for a first go Wiz. That's easily better than half of what gets put out by people who have been out at it for a while now.
