Also lately i see a lot of atheists which debates no differently than extremist religious people. Yes science explained some of the stuff happening out there, nobody claims Zeus throws lightning bolts anymore (well maybe there are a few over here and there) but that doesn't mean we know everything and have all the knowledge about the universe. Current models about the origins and the fate of the universe may very well be flawed and there might be a God somewhere out there (just like there might be a spaggetti monster, who knows)
So even though people who try to convert others to their religion can be irritating, trying to prove your point with half-baked scientific opinions is not much different than quoting a holy book. And the discussion is almost always futile.

Hitchens was a fanatical anti-theist, and to be honest I can see where he comes from. Rather than the whole "respect religion" thing he wouldn't yield an inch if it came to his own personal freedoms, and he's got a point there really.
