Those are pretty nice. with some good custom textures, they would be awesome. Are you using sketchup?

thanks for your appreciation and yes, i use sketchup. 3dsmax died on me for no reason and it was too hard anyway. ive been searching skinning tutorials for ages now and still dont know how to do it.

AFAIK, sketchup doesn't suport skinning. However, IIRC you can use custom textures. Do you know how to make those? You're doing pretty wel with sketchup, thats better than anything I've made, but I'm still learning. If you want, I think I can do some textures for you sometime.

do u use lke renx or somming?

He's using sketchup. RenX is a plugin for GMax that lets you model for CnC.

I really like it, but the barrel seems to be a little to big. Also, I'm not so fond of the colors...

Camille's Photo Camille 04 Mar 2008

yes, the colours are horrible but due to the lack of a proper rendering program i just try to give it some depth by adding colour. maybe not such a good idea after all...

If you had some proper textures, it would be better. I'll get to work on that at some point.

I just made up a quick steel texture

Do you know how to add textures to sketchup? If you don't, just ask. Make sure when you're adding it, you set it too a large size (120' or so, honestly) it looks way better. I'm not very good with sketchup, but here's a general idea of how it will look (don't laugh to much at the 'vee)

just finished another model: this time, a helicopter i made up. unlike most heli's it has two tails and tailrotors, also no weapons are equipped (yet) please tell me what can be better or added (within reasonable limits) and i might add or tweak a thing or two cause i personally like this one.

That one's purdy. Try adding that texture to it. If you're gonna arm it, give it some missiles, and maybe door gunners?

mini-update for the toxin-like tank: now added one headlight, a substainer for the barrel and a more dangerous look for the end of the barrel. also the reason why its so large is because it fires concentrated blobs of toxin, not shells or missiles...

OK, cool. Can we see what it looks like with my texture?

i tried using some textures but its really hard cause you have to orient the texture every time you put it on a face, otherwile it looks like crap. now knowing there are more then 1500 faces on that one... that would take ages. i would rather have a decent skinning program that isnt to hard to learn. (and somethin to convert the skp. to something editable in other progs)

Thats what I thought at first, however, there is another way to apply textures in sketchup. I'd still like to know of that skinning program (Please tell me what it is), but this way works too-
1. In the model, open the paintbucket tool
2. There should be a tab with a radial menu (or something of the sort) labeled colors. Click on it to display the other choices.
3. Select "new texture"
4. Select the .jpg file
5. It will ask for the size and the name- leave the name as is, but change the size to something like 120' x 120'
6. Apply like you would any other texture
