wouldn't a drum be a bit difficult in a bullpup design?

Not particularly. The drum doesn't have to hold 50 rounds. Considering that this is a shotgun, the drum would only have to hold 20-30 rounds, and the "drum" doesn't have to be one large circle. It can be a "split" design.
