Is it possible to set up a map with an opponent of a certain faction with teams & scripts etc. while the player starts in a fixed location on the map but can choose what army they can use before starting the map? Like a hybrid of single player mission and skirmish.

So essentially, you are asking for how you select your faction for something like the general's challenge?

Kind of, except when the map is chosen, the skirmish faction drop-down list is available.
