Theme: APC's (Armored Personnel Carrier)

Rules:

Quote

*The competition closes at 0000GMT the morning of 12th November 2008.
*The model is to be compatible with Command & Conquer: Generals – Zero Hour.
*The model should not exceed 1000 polygons.
*The model must be submitted in .w3d format unless completely impossible, when .3ds will be accepted.
*Its requested that code is provided along with the model, but not necessary. Code can be requested in this thread, and does not have to be done by the modeler.
*The model must have renders provided, showing front, back and sides of model. Similar to how most renders are produced for mods.
*Animations must be provided where required.
*No more than five images per post.
*In game screen shots are appreciated, but not required
*By entering this competition you are declaring that your model be made available in the public domain, and may be used in other modifications with appropriate credit.
*Models may be edited once, post any updated model in a new post and blank your previous entry

Also, prizes will be involved. All we have so far is that the winning model will be skinned and you will get a winners userbar, and possibly additional prizes.

Examples of APC's-
-Bradley (USA)
-BMP-3 (Russia)
-AMV (European APC

I would request that no model is based entirely off a real vehicle. While taking inspiration is fine, originality is key here.

By the way, its both me and AJ running this together, and the skin competition will follow (Dr. Nick has agreed to unwrap the model). This is a trial run, so assuming all goes well, you can expect it to keep up.

I'm hoping for a real competition. Any questions?

The European AMV has its name in the filename oh you.

Why do we have to include a code for each model? AFAIK it's called Modeling Contest for a reason.

I'm sorry, that slipped by, I'll fix it in a sec. Codes are requested but not compulsory.

Does it have to be "modern" or can it be futuristic?

[skims through current design concepts for game designs] Sounds easy, now I'm sure that a simple M113-type APC (box with treads and LMG) is out of the question. but yeah, I'm in on this, I have one idea in mind.

Jok3r's Photo Jok3r 29 Oct 2008

Exactly as was suggested- I want to avoid the m113 :P

Libains's Photo Libains 29 Oct 2008

You know i"d like to think the modelers here have more inventiveness than M113-types. As to the timeframe as to when you model could be from, as this is the first week we are keeping it broad - you could even attach a melee weapon to the wooden rabbit out of Monty Python and try and get away with that as an APC. Furture competitions will undoubtedly be a bit more stringent - this is to ease in the process. Enjoy yourselves guys!

I'm in as well, alto for this contest I'll use a model of Patria AMV which I made for the ROTR some time ago but since we decided to use another APC for ECA this model didn't get into to mod, also I hope that the other contestants wont mind that this model is based entirely off a real vehicle because that was the intention in the first place.
Here is some pictures

More of a IFV than of a APC, but since the M2A3 Bradley was shown in the examples... :P

IMAGE REMOVED. NEW ONE ADDED ON PAGE 2. PLEASE UPDATE ORIGINAL POST WITH THAT.

Meet my low riding, highly armored entry.
the door at the back is fully animated and goes up to a max of 120 degrees elevation.
Ill probably give it some tweaks but this is what i got for now.

Nice entry mbob, I reminds me quite alot of the rhino APC from warhammer 40K :P

And goodluck to all other participants, hopefully this will become a good source of ZH models for modders past, present and future.

maybe me too I dunno ... we'll see -_-

JJ's Photo JJ 31 Oct 2008

I am participating too, mainly to practise my modeling skills. Mine is relatively simple and undetailed, making it contain only 520 poly, much easier on the ZH SAGE. It is based on the RA2 concept, the Soviet Half Track, since I am not creative at all. It is a half track which functions as an APC/IFV.

Now, for the render:

There are headlights, which I have hidden because it obstructs the view. Right now, the meshes are not linked, and there are no bones, though I attached some of them together. I might add more details if I see my competition suddenly becoming hard.

Note: This is the first model I made from scratch without help from blueprints.
