Atlantis' Artwork Reborn

Lord Atlantis's Photo Lord Atlantis 04 Feb 2009

Since my old art thread is rather, well, old, and I do not wish to revive it, here is my new thread. I have recently had a actual desire to make more artwork in GIMP.

To commerate the opening of this new thread, here is my latest piece:

Posted Image

It is my SOTW 80 entry.

And matching Avatar:

Feel free to leave comments and criticism for it here. :D

Enjoy!

While the signature is rather tasteful and has depth, the avatar is rather...well, flat. It lacks shading, that would give the symbol some much needed depth.

Is this the kind of depth you are reffering to?

And this is a modification of the original symbol that is being used for advertising the movie, so it may not be as original as the first one or the colored versions, but this is one I decided to run with.

Welcome back to the world of sigs.
I think your Star Trek sig is awesome, my only dislike is the font as i don't think it fits the feel and theme of the sig.

Hope to see more from here :D

Welcome back LA. Good to have you fiddling with your brushes again. I do like the new sig, but tell me, did you add that lighting effect in the bottom left?

Avy is better with the effect, but could perhaps use some white gradient overlay to the left hand side to add some depth.

Nice Signature you made there.
And the Avatar looks also better now with that added Shine Effect.

Keep it up.

That is indeed more along the lines of the "depth" I was thinking of. My only other concern is that the black of the actual symbol is...well, too black, to put it bluntly. Perhaps if it had a sort of metal sheen to it, it would be better. Then again, that's just me. Posted Image

Yes, I did add that lighting effect in the bottom right corner.

Here is the original render that I used: here.

I'll try throwing a metal sheen on it and see how it turns out. :D

Edit: And here it is:

On ECA sig, left seems a bit plain, but very good overall!

I was trying to show the western part of Europe and have that be visible as maybe a special background but I could not find out what to fill over there that would mesh nicely with the signature. And I could not get any ECA in-game screens from ROTR because well, there aren't any.

Neuschwanstein Castle Signature has an illedgible text other than that great pic :P
I love the fallout one its so simple but still great

and uhhh the ODST sig i dunno but that duplication of the render makes it look weird (IMO) maybe if u flip one of em or use a completely different render itll look better :P

keep up the great work 8|

The top part of the render is slightly off IMO where the engine is. The front is slightly blurry. This is all nitpicking though. That lensflare is pretty awesome.

Lord Atlantis's Photo Lord Atlantis 20 May 2009

The engine is actually on the bottom of the Kelvin. The top is the shuttle bay area and the blue thing is the deflector dish. 8|

And if it seems off, it might just be the actual shape of the ship. Either way, it turned out how it turned out. :P
