TF2 Update Thread

If you notice how I play Pyro, you will see most my kills are not from direct damage. With the buffed airblast, I can do my light and axetinguish combo much better.

Its buffed for my style and nerfed W+M1 but still rather disappointed that the backburner is even more useless than ever.

No doubt they will buff the Backburner next patch or change how it works.

I think it was a perfectly respectable weapon before they nerfed the chance of you getting crits from behind. All they need to do is restore that, it's weak enough as it is from in front of the target.

I think they change the angle quite abit from a long ago update. I still remembers the days that backburner does crits from behind, compare to now it does crit from behind only at perfect 90degees angle.

More info.
So the Crit-a-Cola works in both ways, you'd better be an excellent dodger then...

As opposed to spies bieng able to backstab people in the shoulder. That was horrible, I think they fixed that now though, I haven't seen it happen for a while.

I think they should've reduced only the regular flamethrower's damage, and left the backburner's damage as it was. Would've given people more of an incentive to use it.

In fact, everyone is complaining about them nerfing the Backburner, but the update only says :

Quote

# Flamethrower direct damage reduced 20%.

So that could actually mean that the BB damage hasn't been reduced, and that people are just assuming it was. AFAIK the update has been available since a few hours only, not enough to verify the stats...

Then I'm very curious to hear about the results of this...

Just played a long session with my friend on TF2. Pyro is so buffed now, the reflected mini-crits is one of the most useful.

Incredibly useful considering nowerdays teams spam demomen and soldiers.
I'm interested to see how it works with deflected arrows and flares now.

I'd also like to understand how this new glitch works that breaches the engineer's build limit, as well as enabling Spies to place dispensers.

They rebuilt the build system and left a glitch in, if you create your own objects script you can set the build limit to -1, thus pretty infinite. If you then bind the keys you can just keep building and building.

The sourcemod update tomorrow should cut it out, however. If not, I would imagine that Valve get ahold of it reasonably soon.

Excellent, hopefully we can rock the vote tomorrow too 8|

Bonk! changes
- Post-use movement penalty removed.

So, how are people going to get the "Retire the Runner" achievement now?
Quote

Destiny's Photo Destiny 30 Apr 2010

I'm betting they'll adjust it to 'Kill a Scout in five seconds after his bonkvincibility expires'.

It's his Crit-a-cola.

So we were all supposed to get medals (YAY!), but it seems that the system was a bit flawed because instead of gold, silver, and bronze, all the medals people were getting were only bronze. 8| Hopefully this will be remedied soon.

As a side not, if you find that you can't play on certain servers, it is likely to do with the update and the server probably needs to be reset.

Unfortunately, Valve broke more achievements with previous updates (stunning an ubercharged enemy with the Sandman in example). On the other hand, every Pyro that kills someone with a reflected weapon gets 'Hot Shot' now 8|
EDIT: seems Valve did fix some stuff with their latest update: http://www.teamfortress.com/119/
They fixed Retire The Runner achievement, and the increased the Backburner damage (as TheDr predicted 8|).

Well, at least that horribly engie glitch was fixed.

EDIT: forget it, people can still do it.
What's worse I've encountered several hackers in the past few games, what the hell is going on Valve?

Valve has release another patch about infinite engine's building and problem solve. See more details: http://store.steampo...ews/?appids=440

Now, that's more like it.

I already wondered how my fellow Engineer could build 4 sentries and I couldn't :P Good they fixed that finally.

I do believe the Engineer update is the most anticipated one of all. I wonder if they'll bring out the "Meet the Medic" or "Meet the Pyro" video with the Engie update.
Quote

CodeCat's Photo CodeCat 06 May 2010

As far as I know, Meet the Pyro is coming first.
Quote

Dutchygamer's Photo Dutchygamer 06 May 2010

I've discussed the vid with some friends, and we think the Engineer gets a robot or a cyborg looking from all the stuff around him (robot arm on the blueprint on the wall, a robot head to the right, the Engie himself welding something big). So, what do you guys think?
