Kamen Rider!

[quote name='RaiDK' post='808000' date='21 Sep 2010, 3:03']555 wasn't THAT bad. Kaixa's character was written incredibly poorly/rage inducingly but otherwise it's a pretty fun watch with lots of awesome designs and characters being thrown around. Got a Figuarts Faiz coming in the mail, wooo.

I was more referring more to how the plot pretty much went to shit near the end.
It actually started out very well, and then....
Also, a note on Decade:
Don't watch it if you're looking for sheer Kamen Rider awesomeness. As awesome as that scene is, that's one of about the only 3 or 4 good scenes in the show.

Yeah, I was actually looking forward to Decade... until i realized they went with the whole "Alternate Universe", aka "We couldn't get half the original actors we wanted to back" route. Oh well, at least All Riders vs Dai-Shocker was a great watch.

Decade collectively rapes all of the Hiesei era Kamen Rider. Hell, most of the riders are even nerfed. By a lot.
RaiDK 21 Sep 2010
Didn't they basically say in the second movie "Decade has no story of his own, he exists so the other Riders' stories can be remembered?"
Which basically translates as "Decade exists as a plot point for awesome crossovers and renewed interest in series from previous years"

Don't kill yourself over Decade. Just think about it like this: Decade is pretty much it's own canon, it is essentially it's own verse. Makes it a lot easier. A lot.
Also, I see you're not replying to the JAM Project Thread, have you been burned by the Rescue Fire? :LOS
I have to get to OOO though, it looks best as hell.
RaiDK 21 Sep 2010
Yeah, OOOs has been pretty fun so far
Also in regard to Decade's canon, I think W's appearance (Let's not go into how W managed to absolutely slaughter one of the most powerful Showa era villains there) in All Riders is considered canon since they recognized each other when they met again in Movie Wars 2010.

IIRC, the All Rider special is considered canon, but Decade itself isn't.
I mean, if you've watched any other Hiesei and then saw Decade and noticed the sheer nerfing they were given in terms of power.... :facepalm
Also, Kamen Rider The First and The Next are pretty good starting points. Two damn good movies that act as very basic retellings of Kamen Rider TOS and V3. Also...ICHI MONJI!!!

The First and the Next suck. Contender for worst in the series along with Faiz and Kiva.
RaiDK 21 Sep 2010
You forgot AAAAAAAAMAAAAAAZOOOOOOOOOON
But yeah, I got halfway through The First and then gave up out of sheer boredom. If you want to see what a Hollywood adaptation of Kamen Rider would be like, look no further than The First / The Next. That being said, the choreography and designs are amazing but sadly the rest of the films are really poor.
I'm about halfway through Kuuga atm, it's playing for best Heisei rider series, honestly. It's also the only series to ever bother explaining why a Rider needs to do a somersault when he kicks, needs a bike or needs to announce his attacks.

Don't you dare compare The First and The Next to Kiva and Faiz :C
Granted, The Next was ludicrous and made very little sense, but the fighting was good. The First was all around better, to be frank.
Oh, and for anyone who watches Kabuto, keep some food at hand. It'll make you hungry, trust me. Especially the

Didn't Inoue write Ryuki?
That being said, the OOO part of Movie War 2011 has Inoue at the helm... gonna be interesting!

Inoue wrote the Ryuki movie. The Ryuki series was written by the same writer as Den-O and OOO.

For the record that character is a kaijin called a "Yummy". It's hilarious how straight faced the show plays all the ridiculousness it contains.

I'd like you to retract this statement, on the basis that I just finished Kiva and absolutely loved it.
Unlike Faiz, any time you thought it was going to go into an extended HURRRRRR DRAMA sequence it'd only take half an episode and then move on. Not to mention it was classy as all hell, organ music and stained glass everywhere. Also Emperor Kiva was all kinds of FABULOUS.
I laughed hard at the ending too, that was an absolutely fantastic touch.
On that note, I'd HIGHLY recommend Kamen Rider Kabuto: Easily the best series of anything I've watched ever, it's also probably the most accessible as it's story is a lot closer to western scifi and a lot less "Out there" as other Rider series tend to be.

Ok, one last necromance. New series has just started, first ep was fantastic and I'd say this would be a great time to jump on if you're interested.
