...I'm thinking of getting a new one. Anyone got any suggestions?

I'm looking for one with at least 16GB or less as long as you can expand the memory with a memory card (as long as it's seamlessly integrated).
Preferably with a built-in speaker (not worried about ground breaking sound quality from the speaker though).
Would be nice to be able to play videos / images, but I can live without it.

Other than that, I'm open to suggestions. :D

EDIT: One more thing; No iPods. :xD:

Question is why not get something like this built into you phone? One less thing to carry.

Because a good music phone doesn't exist? Well iPhone with LOD to a portable amp but that is a totally different matter and totally overpriced.

@Bob: If you wanted a plain good music play that is small tiny, try out the Sansa Clip+. It is very cheap and expandable.

If you wanted something that have more function and still perform well playing music. Take a look at the vairious Cowon players, they are very high quality both in build quality and sound. Cowon S9 is one of the best PMP money can buy, and it does flash natively too.

The S9 looks pretty good, not a bad price either.

Thanks for the suggestion. :xD:

Actually the J3 is somewhat a newer version of S9. If your budget allows, might as well go for the J3 instead.

The J3 have improved battery, external flash add on and a speaker.

What are the main differences between the two? I could afford it (the 32GB model doesn't seem too much more expensive), but is it actually worth the extra cash?

The J3 is just a more up to date model than the S9 it meant to supersede. It have a newer UI, more up to date OS, added speakers and SD card support, it also have a long battery life. The S9 is still a very solid product if you cannot get the J3.

From what I've gathered during my stay on MP3 equipment sites, if the Cowon S9 is still a good player, then I guess his Samsung concurrent, the YP-P3 would be a good choice as well, and actually cheaper for the same sound quality, but less shininess :D

EDIT : According to this test (in French) they're fairly similar.
Main points of the comparison are :
- Battery life : Better on the Cowon S9 (50 hours against 25 hours)
- Bluetooth available on the YP-P3 but not on the Cowon
- Similar audio quality
- Similar video quality
- The YP-P3's Radio has RDS, unlike the S9's
- The YP-P3 recognizes more file formats.

EDIT 2:

Now, however, concerning the J3 and the S9, the J3 is definitely better :
- µSD card support
- Better touch response
- Speakers
- Multitouch screen
- Subtitles on videos
- Search function

I'd definitely get the J3 if I had the money :xD:

I own a J3 and I can say that it does live up to its reputation for SQ.

I wouldn't want anything else, to be honest. The S9 is good too but the J3 is so much a refinement of the S9 I wouldn't buy an S9 unless I absolutely had to.
