Looking for a compatible CPU

So, my mother is going to get a tax return back soonish, and wanted to upgrade the computer to make it faster. THe bottleneck towards its speed was the processor, and wanted to get a new one.

This is the motherboard:

Problem being, is that I'm having a bastard of a time looking for a processor compatible with it. Newegg is characteristically useless, as the ones that definitely would work are sold out, and the others were either ~$200-~$400, or had a different chipset. Our budget is at most ~$100.

However, I have heard that AM3 socket processors are backwards-compatible with the AM2+ socket on this processor, despite Compaq's declaration that they won't. To make sure that we are not wasting our money, I'd like some help on finding a good budget processor.

Here's the candidate that I saw:

- AMD Phenom X2 565 Dual-Core, 80W, 3.4 GHz

Will this work, and if not, can I find one that will?

Well, most AM2+ motherboard have upgraded BIOS to fit the AM3 in it. I am not quite sure if your motherboard have the BIOS updated to detect it or if it will simply do it without any updates.
