A young mother died after doctors failed to spot a toilet brush handle embedded in her buttock, a UK inquest has heard.
It took two years to diagnose why Cindy Corton, 35, was suffering constant pain after a drunken fall in a friend's bathroom in 2005.
Mrs Corton went to her local hospital in Lincolnshire, east England, after the incident but she was discharged with painkillers that night.
Despite more hospital visits and an X-ray, doctors still missed a 15cm serrated plastic handle stuck in her flesh, UK media report.
An MRI scan in 2007 finally spotted the brush handle but by then it was embedded in her pelvis and two operations failed to remove it.
The mother-of-one was in so much pain she agreed to a third operation in June 2009, despite being told it could be fatal.
She died of massive blood loss after more than 10 hours of surgery.
Coroner Stuart Fisher of Grantham Magistrates Court said it was a "serious failure" the hospital failed to spot the brush handle earlier.
"Mrs Corton's quality of life was dire and almost unliveable," he was quoted by the BBC as saying.
Her husband is suing the hospital.

As plastic, it should have been plain as day on the X-Ray. Had it been wood, it should still have been obvious to an x-ray when she came in, however wood can, given enough time, absorb bodily fluids and thus in it's own right become almost the same density as the things around it, which would have made it a lot harder to spot.
Nonetheless, while quite funny, yet another reason as the why the NHS needs a kick up the arse.

Uh, AJ, plastic is very hard to spot on x-ray. How do you think people get Glocks through airports? The only thing "plain as day" on an x-ray are metals.

How rather unfortunate for her to suffer and die a painful death, if only they could have discovered that toothbrush in time, then I bet she'll be afraid of getting drunk I suppose.
EDIT: I meant toliet brush...

This shouldn't annoy me, but it does. Read the article properly next time.
Oh and

South park is coming true! Seriously what the fuck is wrong with so many people... People draw jesus all the time, the whole christian world doesn't label them devil worshippers or condemn them to an early grave. You know what, muslims really need to just lighten up..

On Wednesday a Pakistani court ordered Facebook to be blocked because of a page inviting people to draw caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad.

Fair point, I'm just assuming that as a toilet brush it will be made from cheap plastics and be rather large - thus it would be quite dense. Granted, x rays aren't the best at showing up a lot of things, thus why an MRI is by far a more sophisticated piece of technology. Unfortunately it also costs a shed load more. *Insert lack of money for NHS here*

To be honest it's the victim's fault more than anyone else's.
If a drunk driver crashes into a tree, who do you blame?
a) the driver
b) the health system who failed to save the driver besides all attempts
c) the gardener who planted the tree
d) the alcohol
It's not any of b to d, I'll tell you that.
That's because Christianity doesn't have anything specifically against pictures of Jesus, however there's something in Islamic law which goes by something like Muhammed is too 'holy to be drawn' or something along those lines, hence images of him are forbidden.

I don't know much about the tragedy, so I can't speak about that. But I will point out that you cannot, in fact, get Glocks through airport security. That's a myth. Not just because they're polymer (and they're not. They have polymer components, but they're still largely constructed of metal...) but also because that polymer is dense enough to show up on x-rays. I suppose that just means that the handle wasn't particularly dense, which... is entirely believeable, considering the thickness of material in a lot of goods these days.

Nope, Islam doesn't say such a thing, in fact Islam just forbids to draw ANY living creature, because that's considered like a blasphemy, and an attempt to recreate life, which makes you a heretic...
And that's the reason why you'll never see any representation of a living creature in any mosque, just plain geometric symbols.

So reproduction of human life is heresy?

I can assure you that it's impossible for me to understand this as well D:
Also, I don't even think this is mentioned in the Quran, my bet is that it's just another of the billions of it's misinterpretations...

Seems I was wrong to an extent, however Wiki disagrees with us both. It seems to be a Sunni only thing. I find it incredibly hard to believe that Islam bans drawings of any living creature, considering there has been plenty of Islamic painters, however I can see how it relates to the idolatary thing that the Sunni's have against drawings of Muhammed.

Wiki isn't always reliable, what I told you is what I've learned in Religious Education, and their program is set by imams, better wait for a confirmation from Scope, since I'd value his opinion more than an encyclopedia which can be edited by anyone... Also, Chiites have been complaining about the depictions of the prophet as well. Anyway, I think we're starting to get a bit far off the original discussion, aren't we?
EDIT : Don't get me wrong though, I still think that the wikipedia version makes more sense than the one they've been teaching us, but that doesn't concern only Sunnites

I see, so idolatry is why they're afraid/forbidden to draw him...makes sense. Well unfortunately the net is harsh, and the world has its share of criticizers who would just go on ahead and draw (somewhat satirical) images of [insert name here] and [insert name here].

How on earth do you learn in school if you are unable to have pictures of say, a cow, or even a grassy hill?
It makes zero sense. How do you learn biology or anatomy?

I'm sure if that was their stance they would make up some crockpot bollocks. " Allah implants the images in our mind, that way they are a holy gift and we know he approves, if we were to draw them ourselves by our human hand we may damage his sacred work "
I just made that shit up, but it sounds as plausible as some of the rubbish they do / come up with.

Also the group on Facebook went along the lines "Let's all draw Mohammed" which led to alot of racist/hateful drawings. The group should never have been opened and Pakistan also overreacted.
