Hardcore porn was broadcast on the Indonesian parliament's internal information service, shocking journalists and bureaucrats who rely on the screens for updates on political events.

Hardcore images apparently taken from the internet filled the screens used by reporters, political staffers and visitors for about 15 minutes before security guards managed to shut it off, reporters said.

It was not clear how the images appeared on the screens but House Speaker Marzuki Alie said whoever was responsible would be punished.

"Whoever hacked the screens is insolent and will be reported to the authorities," he told reporters.

The incident is sure to embarrass president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, who has recently backed calls for stricter controls on the internet following a national scandal over an online celebrity sex clip.

Indian police, seemingly terrified that a rat with wings will glean some secrets for neighboring enemies in Pakistan, recently took into custody a white pigeon found near the border of the two countries. The cause for suspicion: a ring around the bird’s foot and written on its body in red ink a phone number and address from Pakistan.

Although it was taken into captivity in late May, seeing as how Indian police took a pigeon to jail, it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to assume that it’s still there for refusing to talk. No note was found with the pigeon, so unless it has a little camera somewhere in that band of his, I don’t think keeping the bird in captivity is going to do much good.

Despite this, at least the pigeon is being kept safe. The health of the bird was a major concern, and its lodgings in captivity are being kept nice and air conditioned for maximum comfort.

The best part of the story is the news that the pigeon is being kept on lock down under armed guard. I’m guessing a cage and a small room wasn’t official enough?

A Turkish immigrant claims New Zealand police cannot tell the difference between fighting and dancing after he was charged with assault while celebrating with his wife.

A judge has now told the police to go away and study a cultural Turkish video showing the kolbasti dance before deciding whether to proceed with the case.

The New Zealand newspaper Taranaki Daily News said Kebab shop owner Allaetin Can was arrested after a passerby reported he was hitting, kicking and strangling his wife outside their shop in the North Island town of Hawera.

But when he appeared in court, Can argued he and his wife Elmas were merely performing the traditional Turkish kolbasti dance, which, loosely translated, means "caught red-handed by the police" and involves energetic movements.

Can said he, his wife and two teenage children danced out of their kebab shop into a carpark after a particularly profitable lunch shift.

"We're always dancing," he said.

"I'm happy to dance with my wife and my family, what's wrong with that?

"People here understand fighting, not dancing. It's our culture."

The judge gave police two weeks to study a DVD of the kolbasti and if they accepted that Cans was involved in an innocent dance then the charge would be withdrawn.

As long as the dark foundation of our nature, grim in its all-encompassing egoism, mad in its drive to make that egoism into reality, to devour everything and to define everything by itself, as long as that foundation is visible, as long as this truly original sin exists within us, we have no business here and there is no logical answer to our existence.
Imagine a group of people who are all blind, deaf and slightly demented and suddenly someone in the crowd asks, "What are we to do?"... The only possible answer is, "Look for a cure". Until you are cured, there is nothing you can do.
And since you don't believe you are sick, there can be no cure.

As JetBlue Flight 1052 from Pittsburgh was taxiing to a gate at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport, Slater tired to assist a woman who was struggling with her carry-on luggage, his lawyer Howard Turman told a judge in Queens today.

An argument that evidently began in Pittsburgh erupted again in New York, according to Slater's lawyer. Slater believes the middle-aged woman "maliciously" hit him on his head with her luggage, Turman said.

That's when Slater apparently grabbed the plane's intercom and made an expletive-laced speech, grabbed a beer from the galley, opened the door and slid down the emergency evacuation chute.

In a written statement to the Queens County District Attorney's Office, Slater said, "I lost patience after a female passenger had an argument with another passenger and then opened the bin door hitting me on the head without apologizing, I got on the microphone and said, 'To those of you [who] have shown dignity and respect these last twenty years, thanks for a great ride.' I accessed the porthole pulled the door handle inflating the slide, took my baggage and slid down the slide and left."

Sourcey source.

US school road marking spelt wrongly
Posted Image
Newly paved road leading to Southern Guilford High School Not quite right. Try again.

Workers have misspelled the word school on a road approaching a high school in North Carolina in the United States.

Crews painted "shcool" on the approach road to Southern Guilford High School.

The road had been recently repaved and crews were working to mark out the school zones.

The company which was responsible said it had "made a mistake" and it would be fixed. A spokesperson said the paint was "interim paint" that is used before the final paint is applied.

Police raiding a drug den in the Italian capital have been confronted by an aggressive albino python which was used to intimidate addicts.

Police had been tipped off that they would find "an animal" during the raid on the apartment in the centre of Rome, and when they opened the door they saw a striped yellow and white snake curled up on a heat mat.

The snake, which was three metres long and was kept hungry so that it would be more aggressive, was allowed to roam the apartment to scare addicts into paying for their drugs, police said.

Animal services were called to capture the snake, which was tempted into captivity using a whole chicken and sent to a nearby zoo.

The reptile had been resting on 200 grams of pure cocaine, and a further five kilograms were found in the apartment.

Six people were arrested in the raid, on top of another six who were already in custody.

The 12 were charged with conspiracy to traffic cocaine and illegal possession of a protected species.

The Czech Republic may allow North Korea to repay its debt with ginseng roots.

North Korea owes more than $11 million to the Czech Republic for trams and heavy machinery it received during the Soviet era.

The offer of ginseng, which is said to combat lethargy, arthritis and impotence, will reduce Pyongyang's debt by about five per cent.

Twenty tonnes of the root are reportedly on offer as a down payment.

Czech deputy finance minister Tomas Zidek says the idea has potential.

"At a working meeting we asked them for some goods, and one of the options was ginseng imports - though it was not an official offer from their side," he said.

"Based on the story in the press, we had calls from dealers willing to trade ginseng so it would be good business for the state," he said.

US doctors who thought a dark mass on an X-ray was a tumour were surprised to find a pea sprout embedded in the patient's lung.

X-rays showed a dark mass in the lung of 75-year-old emphysema sufferer Ron Sveden and doctors concluded it could be a tumour.

But to the astonishment of the Cape Cod man and his doctors, biopsies on the mysterious mass revealed it was in fact a 1cm-long pea sprout.

The Boston Globe reported the germinated pea was removed without event, and Mr Sveden recovered without incident.

"I must have ate something and it went down the wrong way, that's all they could tell," he told the newspaper.

Mr Sveden's doctors said it was not unusual for small particles of food to pass into the lungs, but it was surprising that the pea had been able to sprout in such an environment.

A pair of marijuana growers in western Canada appear to have been using bears to protect their illegal crop, but the well-fed animals proved to be a bit lax in their guard duties, police say.

Police say officers were dismantling two large outdoor plots of marijuana near Christina Lake, British Columbia, when they realised there were 10 large black bears wandering around the farm property.

Officers were initially worried the bears might be dangerous but soon realised the animals were very docile and content to sit around as the marijuana was seized.

Two people were arrested in connection with the drugs.

The bears, which were apparently being fed dog food to keep them on the property, may eventually have to be put down if wildlife officials determine they have become to habituated to humans.

An enormous saltwater crocodile named Harry has picked Julia Gillard as the winner of the federal election in a snap poll in Darwin this afternoon.

The 4.9 metre croc was given the choice of munching on one of two chicken carcasses - one tied to an image of the Prime Minister and the other attached to a picture of Opposition Leader Tony Abbott.

In front of a large crowd, the 720 kilogram beast, which last month correctly tipped Spain as the winner of the soccer World Cup, seemed at first disinterested in both options.

But after about five minutes, the croc opened its jaws and crunched down on the meat attached to Ms Gillard.

"He saw the future and I think he might have something going with Paul the octopus," the reptile's handler, Nigel Palmer, said, referring to the octopus that had eight correct tips during the World Cup.

Another crocodile at the enclosure, Bert, picked the winner of the Darwin Cup from a field of 12 horses earlier this month.

For decades, handlers have used the crocodiles to settle a range of issues, from who should do the chores to which lotto numbers to pick.

Large Hadron Collider Has Black Hole Button
Posted Image

Though the Large Hadron Collider didn't kill us when those crazy CERN scientists closed their eyes, said a prayer, recited a few theorems and switched it on for the first time, the secret is that it could have killed us. When they built the collider, the scientists installed a black-hole creation button. (The button is real, but it doesn't actually do anything.)

No black holes, no tearing of space-time fabric, no instant worm hole to the Gamma Quadrant. "There is a wry sense of humor that pervades the [LHC] scientists," said Steve Nahn, one of the MIT researchers on duty at the LHC. In addition to the sign that warns users of a black hole creation, there's another equally predictable sign on the side of the balcony overlooking the detector that reads "Please do not feed the Physicists."
Posted Image
Can you imagine using a 14-mile ring to monitor particles that look like pucks to a hockey rink of an atom? And doing it while death threats from ignorant loonies the world over come pouring in? "There's a fair amount of stress at times trying to make the detector go, so defusing it with humor is one way to maintain sanity," Nahn said.
