Because you get less than that for stealing! Also a dog's life should not be worth anything, you don't get condemned for killing a sheep now do you? The whole thing of suing people for animal cruelty is bullshit.

I think in Australia you can get a lighter sentence for murder or rape than if you killed an animal.

That's just because you are from a country where killing dogs and other animals is considered the most normal thing in the world 8| . In the west, this is not the case.

You certainly meant : "That's because you come from a country where the justice is actually doing it's job."
At least rapists and pedophiles get death penalty here, that proves that justice is suing the right persons instead of caring about some stupid old hag complaining that someone verbally assaulted her dog...

In the UK you get a tougher sentance for corporate fraud or embezzlement than murder or rape. If you harm animals, you just get a video on YouTube 8|

Well in Italy there was a guy who left his cat on the balcony for a few hours because he was pissing him off. He got fined 500€ to compensate for the "emotional damage the cat suffered"

No crime is worth the death penalty, but that's for another thread.

Admittedly sometimes things can get to far but they are the exceptions. Do remember this woman hung the dog and then lit it on fire, she didn't just leave it outside.

Agreed, she must be deranged but that doesn't justify 5 years in prison...

Imagine a group of people who are all blind, deaf and slightly demented and suddenly someone in the crowd asks, "What are we to do?"... The only possible answer is, "Look for a cure". Until you are cured, there is nothing you can do.

What I meant is that they'd better send her to an asylum or something than in prison if she's crazy. :D

Someone who did something horrible like that to a dog could potentially do it to a human being. She certainly deserves the sentence.

Even if they saved someone's life?
One shouldn't confuse faith with fanaticism. There are SOME good religious people. They tend to get lost among the nutjobs though. But that's for another thread.

The most vocal minority sadly drown the majority of us. And many of the fanatiscists are good pople, crazy yes, but so am I, so who am I to speak?

Wait, what? Did I read that right, a dog's life should not be worth anything? Then yours, mine, that of every other person shouldn't be worth anything either. Every single life on Earth has a immense value. That includes the life of a dog, and even that of a rat. Call me a tree-huger, but killing anything that isn't about to kill you is just plain wrong.

Sorry if I'm insisting on the vegetarian part, but I find it actually intriguing... I mean, it all comes to the same, doesn't it? If you respect every kind of life and don't want to kill anything which isn't about to kill you then you can't possibly eat the meat of animals who did nothing to you, now can you?
And actually I respect your belief, but for the record you should know that I barely give any value to a human's life as well.

I should have written "all aspects of life" rather than "all kinds of life". I respect every living thing in its entirety, that includes the human aspect of being a hunter-gatherer. Putting weight on "hunter". I can't change that humans need both meat and 'green' for the body to function in its entirety, I do not approve of eating meat as main diet, because it's unnecessary, and unhealthy at the same time.
