I'm a big fan and modder of HW2 and ORB.
I think this mod would blow many players minds.
My question is how are you going to make the game environment appear to be as if its underwater ?
I figure that your going to have to remove all the ground vehicles and use the flight scripts to make the Subs.
You can still keep the harvester behavior on the ground because that could simulate a resource collector [HW2 Lingo] collecting on the seabed.
However to really pull this off your going to have to figure out how to distort the appearance of the playing field to make the player feel as if he or she are really playing under the sea.
If TW uses the same sky shadows that you see rolling over the playing field in Generals then you can , somehow set it up to look as if there is sunlight reflecting from the surface onto the ocean floor and/or on units.
Flight scripts or notepad code editing will be needed to make almost every sub model move as if its floating.
The second most important detail would be the simulation of bubbles.
You can't have subs moving underwater or torpedos moving to their target without streams of bubbles trailing them, otherwise it won't look right.
Sound is no problem because i can design underwater explosions.
The one thing that will restrict this mod from trully feeling your underwater [and there is really nothing you can do about which is the bad part] is the game's engine as respect to height.
In Homeworld 2 you can create maps that are not only pretty big but also have great depth to them [samething in ORB] since TW is 95 percent ground based, the game engine's ceiling height will greatly restrict sub movement.
Either way don't let that stop you and i will be one of many standing in line to download this mod when its finished.
Sometime ago there was an underwater mod in the making for HW2 but it never was produced.
For some good ideas for this mod, do a search on your favorite search engine and look for SUBMARINE TITANS.
I have this game and its a really cool underwater submarine RTS.
Although it looks and plays like RedAlert it is a perfect starting point to gather ideas from.
If you need, i can scan the manuel and email it to you because it breaks down all the things in the game.
I think its a really interesting and creative idea
