Yeah, that's what I meant by the 'industrial look'.

The SC2 Battlecruiser looks cartoony compared to the original one :locky:

i almost think it would be better if they just revamped the original to take advantage of todays technology, with extra units and features.

The cinematics are AMAZING. It's just a shame the in-game shots aren't in the same style.

lol, it's so weird seeing hi-res Starcraft cinematics :locky:

Also, the graphical style clearly is the one from WCIII, using the same proportions, bloated bodies, overstylized housecolors, heck they even seem to have used the same polish to get rid of every bit of dirt on their loved toys.

Starcraft was always cartoonized but gritty at the same time. Just look at the Terran faces and portraits in SC1. Actually everything is directly the same proportions, design, everything, as SC1, just with brighter colors. I agree that they need to use a more washed color palette though.

EDIT: Also what the fuck did they do to the poor siege tanks? :(

BTW, that is how a terran battlecruiser was looking to some of us.

Ingame in SC1, battlecruisers hardly resemble this at all. The reason SC2 battlecruisers don't look like this ingame is, I presume, because they have this broken-down unproportional representation like in SC1.

It´s been only me explicitly comparing it to WCIII and RaiDK semi-agreeing with me so don´t see this as the next worldwide anti-Blizzard conspiracy.

I think you can see why this comment pissed me off:

Quote

Meeh, was hoping for a real Starcraft II, not some Starcraft 1.5 + WCIIIx0.5 ...

Don't act victimized now just because I jump to defend the game I love when you deliver a smartass comment as if you have completely turned it down despites only seeing it in the pre-beta stage and about 2% of the content.

EDIT: Heck, if they went for a more gritty color scheme, people would start complaining about CNC3-likeness instead. rolleyes.gif Seriously, what are you expecting?

People seeing the voicing of an oppinion not as a formal declaration of war against SCII or any other game?

Maybe you need to relax too, knight of the anti-hype war order?

They turned it into a square... Because I guess Rectangles were found to be too unreliable and expensive, y'know?

lol, the 'unreliable and expensive' argument is going to become a catch phrase for all game changes :locky:

Oh well. At the present time these are my worries:

- Protoss needs some flesh and blood units revealed soon or they'll be a gold-and-blue scrin imitation. And those giant walkers and the mothership are a blow under the belt...

- Too slick and colorful graphics.

- Blizz may be too scared of changing the game in any major way.

I think those are pretty much everyone's worries. TBH I'm not surprised this game went all WC3 style in terms of graphics.

I hate Warcraft III's graphics, BIG TIME.

Found this in google:

I admit that picture of the Siege tank from Starcraft Ghost is way better than this:

I preffer a Generals or C&C 3 Style Graphics anyday compared to the lame WCIII Graphics :locky:

If anything, SC2's graphics are similar to SupCom. When we have far better lighting, models, animations, particle systems and such, this will be far different from WC3.

I'm not impressed at all. I feel like I'm in a time warp looking at a game from 2004.

Looks like that SC mod for Sage that was shut down a while ago.

The space units don't look very gritty (or as realistic as I'd have hoped). So far all the Protoss units don't surprise me either.

Still, it'll be a damn addictive game if they get the same gameplay style back. here's hoping they bring back the old style too.

Sofar i think it looks pretty neat and to me it also seems that it was about time that we got an other scifi RTS game which is actualy good and fun to play SupCom is nice but it takes ages to tech up and there are so many upgrades and units that makes the game simply far to complex which completly put me off to playing it.

@ Stinger in 2004 ZH was only a few months old :locky:

... ZH is from 2004. People like you who have never played SC1 don't know what sets SC apart from other RTSes in look and feel. So I don't expect any CnC fan's heads to be turned by these screens.

Also, I just read that SC2 will have a physics engine. Woo! That will definitively be interesting.

Dude i have played both SC1 and CnC TD and to me waiting for SC2 for so freaking long feels that blizz is giving us SC1 in a 3d engine. where is the revolutionary stuff. Atlest give us some new design. I will wait for the demo to make my final judgement and the thing that i am mostly looking for is closure in the story. SC1 left a lot of question unanswered and i hope this answers those. If SC wins me over it will be because of the game and the story but on the graphics front i have to say its a disappointment..

Mathias's Photo Mathias 19 May 2007

There are no bold steps to take anymore without stepping somewhere other recent RTSes have already been. I like that blizz are trying to create a slicker, more diverse version of the original SC experience, and that the story will be concluded(?) at last. The problem is that it seems as if they are being overtly careful not to do any big changes to the formula. I don't know, really, if I want something like good old Starcraft or something very new and fresh that feels very little like Starcraft. A middle ground would be perfect, I just don't know how much changes blizz will be willing to make seeing as the game has been in development for 4 years already.

I dont have too much against the graphics, though. It looks like incredibly detailed 3d versions of SC1 sprites, heck they even kept a quasi-isometric deafult viewpoint. As stated before my only complaint is the color palette, which is way too vivid and should be more gritty, and uncalled for changes of units like the Siege Tank to a higher level of ugliness. Im excited about seeing more Zerg tbh.

Still, the crispyness is insane and I can't wait to see other settings than Space Platform.

I look at it as a gamer first and a C&C fan second.

If I was new to computer gaming and saw the latest RTS and then that I would ask when it was released because it just looks old.

This made my weekend. :locky:

To those of you who complain, STOP. In case you didnt know the game has just been announced. If you read the FAQ, the release is a long ways away and there is still alot of time for changes. The reason they arent showing any dramatic changes is because anything over dramatic would scare away fans of SC. They are only showing things the people who know SC will know.
The colorful units are good as they are. The reason it isnt gritty is because than it would just be another RTS game which tries to look realistic.
Also another note as too why they made it similar to SC is because everyother game that has a long line to follow always screws up. Look at RA2 and than Generals, see the massive screw up. Than look at TW and TS. Still a massive change.
Just wait and see. Personally I love what they are doing to the game. They arent changing it to something that it is not. The are sticking to what it does best, and thats looking like a SC game, not another screw up of title continuation.
