We don't have an offical one, though we use the UK 'God save the queen' amongst others.

We have used a selection of these
God save the queen
Land of hope and glory
I vow to thee my country
Nimrod
Heart of Oak
Rule Britiannia
Jerusalem

I reckon Jerusalem is the best here and i reckon it should be our offical anthem.

I agree that Jerusalem is a very moving tune, however I wouldn't want anything to replace God Save the Queen.

Are you totally sure that this isn't the official National Anthem? Can I just ask your source on that?

Out of the ones you enumerate, I only recognise Rule Britannia which is a great song while we're at it. Personally, I wouldn't mind it but I think there'd be a lot of people who might feel offended since the song bears connotations of imperialism. Then again, the French anthem is full of violence and war metaphors and nobody is complaining. I'm not the one to decide that though. It's no way a bad song and as I said, I wouldn't mind it, but for the sake of your outward image, a less powerful song might be more appropriate. Also, we're speaking about an ENGLISH anthem, not a British...Maybe Rule Britannia should be made anthem of the UK and God Save The Queen anthem of England however such a change would be quite radical.

England is not a country, it is a state within the country of The United Kingdom of Great Britian and Northern Island.

The UK has the national anthem God Save the Queen, England has none so we use God Save the Queen which is the most dull anthem ive heard. Even the Irish have the guts to have verses about killing the English. So i don't think anyone can compalin about imperalism on our part.

Yes the old girl has retired and our navy is no longer supreme, someone come back to me when they rule 1/4 planet with a population of just 20million.

Im more of a fan of Jerusalem, gotta love those 'dark satanic mills'

Bottom half of the third verse:

Our camp fires now are burning low
See in the east a silv'ry glow
Out yonder waits the Saxon foe
So chant a soldier's song

So as you see it's not all English we sing about killing, just those of Saxon heritage :)

In any case that part is never sung, just the chorus really. And there's also the English language one which is getting used more often, Ireland's Call.

I'm guessing the national anthem would only be for sporting occasions, it's the only time I can think that England (normally as a seperate team) would need it.

92% of people play as USA or China. If you are part of the 8% that plays as the GLA then put this in your signature.
