The Overwatch Standard Issue Pulse Rifle. (OSIPR)

Posted Image

Located in: Half Life 2
Damage: 3 (Primary fire)/ Instant vapourisation (Secondary Fire)
Ammunition (chamber/carried): 30/60
Ammo pick-up amount: 30 (standard)
Secondary fire: Pulse Orb
Entity Name: weapon_ar2

Description
The overwatch pulse rifle is a Combine created assault rifle with decent accuracy at close range, high damage, but a slightly slower fire rate then the MP7. The clip is very small, and tends to be used up quickly - although it has high recoil if the trigger is held for all 30 rounds. The gun is ludicrously inaccurate over long distances. As the name states, it is used by the Combine Overwatch and you find it first right at the end of Chapter 6 - "We Don't Go to Ravenholm...". The elite combine carry pulse rifles equiped with combine pulse orbs. Primary fire is a steady pulse of bullets and the secondary launches a pulse orb. Combine pulse orbs are also energy cores for combine generators in the last levels of the game (Our Benefactors/Dark Energy).

Techniques
Don't try and use the pulse rifle for long-range targets, as it is very inaccurate. Save the (scarce) ammunition for close-range targets - particularly combine soldiers. Try and resist the urge to use up all 30 bullets in one go; this gun eats its ammunition like it's going out of fashion. Use the secondary fire to clear out lots of enemies in an enclosed space, but beware of the long pause between pulling the trigger and the actual launch of the orb. Pulse orbs can be caught with the gravity gun (simply shooting will slow them down for a few seconds, but won't stop them) and fired back.

Targets
Just about everything - as long as it isn't too far away.

Sounds like Hobbes is in love.

I am also a sniper. Long range weapons with good scopes, low ammo, and heavy hitting projectiles are my choice.

Of course... I am also a fan of exotic weapons... Such as the Nanovibronic Disks used by the Predators in AVP Extinction. Melee weapons are also a favorite, among which are the Katana, staff and sai.
Remember me? You old timers?

AI Arctic Warfare Magnum, in any game.
The SR-25 (M-16 based special purpose sniper rifle) I first found it in a game called SOCOM and I was in love.
M-14/21 A Vietnam era rifle that I've only seen in SOCOM and Delta Force: Blackhawk Down, yet it was one of my favorites in both games.
M4A1 with a silencer and a red dot sight. Point of Existence for BF2 has it, so does SOCOM and a couple others, and damn it is a great gun.

- Any sniper rifle, preferably SVD, PSG1, M95 or a scoped Karabiner 98k.
I don't have to specify the game on these ones as they kick major arse wherever they make an appearance

- The Fallschirmjägergewehr 42 from Call of Duty
Assault rifle + sniper rifle + light MG = this allround talent of warfare. Shame the clip size is limited to puny 20 rounds...

- Cerebral Bore from Turok
Alias, you have no idea how much I like you. This rarity of a weapon, unknown to most people, is probably the least thing one wants to be confronted with. It will hunt you down, attach to your head, drill your brains out and once your melon is empty, your head asplodes.

Ooh I forgot a Turok thing, you shoot them out of a rocket launcher, but instead of tracking you down and eating up your head, they eat up your entire body. Mad cool.

edit: Oh, and of course the P90, though I haven't played a game with it yet; I absolutely love P90s. Blame SG-1 :P

Counter-strike 1.6? Source? Condition Zero?
FarCry?

There are plenty more...

I know, I just haven't played any of those games yet ;) (well ok, I did play Far Cry once in botmatch with no bots to check out the guns, and I did like the look of the P90 and recognised it from Stargate, but I didn't know the name of the gun yet. In fact, that was what got me to trawl Wikipedia until I found out the name of the gun ;))

The movement while aiming was both unrealistic and extremely irritating. I could never get my aim right and could not hit a single target.

Describe this motion, because unless you are prone and your rifle is supported by a bipod, your run-of-the-mill sniper rifle is definitely going to move while you hold it, even if you are a trained combatant, keeping your arms so solid is impossible.

in BF2 the Eryx and SRAW look identical altough they are actually different in its own way....and the M249 isnt the FN Minimi (the Israelis and yanks changed the name to M240)

It's not exactly my favourite Skin for the SG550, but it's well-made and has some nice animations.

In all honesty, the movement is extremely easy to compensate for.
Most good players never use the Stabilizer and have a more useful unlock instead.

Melee: crowbar, chainsaw, rapier (gotta love how easy they are to swing around vs broadswords).
Med range: Minigun (or really any 100+ shot clip weapon, with fast RoF), and i'd like the desert eagle.
Long range: Sniper rifles (particularly the Barret [i think thats how its spelled]) or a Rocket launcher, you know you got skill when you can nail a guy between the eyes with a rocket.
R.I.P. Luyo, I will never forget you.
