The price would probably be a bit higher than that.

Older model autos are getting cheaper until they enter the "classic" or "vintage" state.

Well of course they're going to be cheaper. They're second hand.

But are production costs getting cheaper and are sale prices of newer models cheaper than the older ones?

Production of the older ones would indeed be easier. Thus the price of this current holographic display would, likewise drop. No?

Prices will drop, until they introduce Holographic Display Mark II which renders the Mark I model obsolete. The Mark II model will invariably cost more at its introduction than the Mark I model, while incorporating minor improvements. Then the Mark II model will be replaced by the Mark III model, which costs more than the Mark II model because it incorporates significant improvements, and renders both the Mark I and Mark II model obsolete, despite the trouble people went through of buying them both. In the meanwhile, inflation increases the prices of all three.

I don't know shit about economics but I'm guessing that's how it will go. Prices will go down, but then they will go up again as soon as a new shiny bell-and-whistle comes off the assembly line, rendering previous technology much devalued in the face of this new technology. Example. All my computer items are worth about... 500 dollars right now, when about 5 years ago, they were worth 1499.99 plus tax.

Well obviously. But you could buy an old one for cheaper.

Only if you're poor of course. Items and their state denote social status.

And this is why computers are often custom-built: easily upgraded so they can keep with current technology. It's the one thing that's good about computers and usage. (Looking at you, Vista.)

[/random tech commentary]

But yeah, the above posters' economics sound about right.

Lets keep in mind that this thing actually is not a hologram, but just another way to use the low framerate of our eyes to create the 'hologram'.

But with these volatile and probably unefficient mirrors, I don't really see that much applications for it as one would hope. It will still be a long way before we can see Master Yoda talking in our faces from the distant world of Dagobah :P
