This is just a real quick question: will things requiring far older versions of Direct X (like DX 6 for example) work on DX 9.0c?

Yes. It should work - you are more likely to have Operating System issues with older software/games than have DirectX issues.

(In all honesty though, knowing technology, it wouldn't be that way. (DX10 is probably that way though, what with Vista and all)

this is one thing that MS is better at then both Apple and linux. backward compatibility is one of their top priorities unfortunately some times it comes at the cost of stability.

PS: DX 10 is not the way to go. No one has really warmed up to DX 10. Its probably gonna take DX 10.1 for real world wide adoption. and Its gonna come without current cards supporting it.
