I honestly dont have anything against the styling of the Porsche. I just don't understand why they keep announcing then producing "new" models of the 911 even though the 911 is really the same every time. The styling sometimes changes, like the classic headlights coming back between 996 and 997 (i think it was).

The engineering changes only a little sometimes as well as the interior. Sometimes, it's even rubbish. I saw a 911 Carrera S being tested on the Top Gear track and the interior was unbelievably stupid. The placement of the seat memory buttons, for example, or even the fact that the gear lever comes off.

I do have a respect for the 911's handling ability, but I can just see better cars out there in the 911s price range. The one thing I don't understand is why everyone chooses the 911 anyway.

This one for example:

Cookie to anyone who IDs it.

That's my idea of a good looking car. Like the 911, it can be used as an everyday car. It's a mid-engined supercar that has performance specs that iirc, out do the current 911. (don't know about the 997TT)
But I would definately pick this over any 911.

Well, the porsche design is just simply classic, it's an icon, just like the tailights of a corvette or a skyline.

Anyways, that's a Noble M15, maybe that's why it says M15 NBL on the license plate, confirmed by googling the Noble M15, and re-tracing the link for the image.

Anyways, the fact that it can only hold two eliminates it from teh running to be used as an "everyday" car, the porsche has mini little seats in the back (for very small children prob). Anyways, that thing is sorta ugly IMHO. The back end just doens't do it for me, as it just gets taller, and by now you should know that I am against back ends that go up.

Agreed with Edd. Both of our Porsches have 4 seats, enough to make them practical. Me and my brother occasionally transport a third person who needs that extra room in back. The above car

In addition, the Porsche has a more complex style to them. The above vehicle is just a quadrangle with a bubble on top and a bubbled front. Top down I assume it is a freaking rectangle. The body also appears wider than the seating area to a reasonable degree. I call that wasted space. The upward slope from the beginning of the door to the end is just hideous.

And for some reason, I can't pin it, but something bothers me about the cancerous tumore known as the roof and windows.

Yeah, i just noticed, that car is damn wide considering how not far apart or wide the seats are...

Anyways, who would drive a car like that, which looks like an ferrari/lambo-like car to work everyday?

Because of its head-turning ability. :P

The point I'm trying to make by posting something like that is that there are other cars out there within the Porsche price range that everyone seems to plainly ignore.
Besides, the car "which looks like an ferrari/lambo-like car" is cheaper than a ferrari or a lambo yet has the same exotic supercar look that people buy ferraris and lambos for.

But everyone has their own tastes I guess. I, for one, absolutely adore the M15. Most of you already know that, though.

They don't buy it for the look or the functionality. They buy it for the name.

Quite true. Sad, really.

I suppose the pulling power doesn't really work on people who know nothing about cars. But surely the look of the Noble can compete with the best of them, especially if the performance can too.
At least if I was driving this around town, I wouldn't be worrying about scraping it over the speed bumps like the Ferrari guys would be.

Not everyone has a Noble. There are more Ferrari owners than there are Noble owners. It's exclusivity, not just the "M15" name.

Well that's to be expected. It was only made last year. I'd just take the Noble over the Porsche or even Ferrari.

By the way, this new Nissan Skyline/350z/GT-R... anyone know how much it's going to cost?

Projected cost is anywhere between $70-$80k. Save yourself $30-$40k and buy a 350Z and modify it, or get something with an actual back seat that's still fairly sporty.

Or spend the same amount of money for a new "Skyline" and import an R34 if you're in America or go find one. Don't know the legality of owning one in America but if I could own one, I don't want it modded. I want an unmolested R34, as it was right off the factory. I don't need the extra power. It has plenty for me. :P

You might be able to have one here, but because the US's safety laws are more restrictive than anyone else's, you probably won't be able to drive it on the street (hopefully I'm wrong).

IIRC, the R34 has 276 horsepower, or the maximum power allowed by the now ignored "gentleman's agreement" Japan had for the longest time. 276 isn't enough for me :P . I have roughly 250hp now and I crave more :D .

I am the proud owner and driver of a 2001 Buick Regal GS.

Here's a reference pic:
Posted Image

It has GM's 3800 series II L67 gasoline motor. Translated, it's a 3.8 litre, supercharged V6 that normally pushes 240 horsepower and 280 lbs/ft. of torque. However, I've modded mine slightly, and I've gained at least +10 in each category. (The 3800 series still uses pushrod technology too).

Edit: Even though it requires premium fuel ($3.39/gallon where I live), I normally get 360-380 miles to a tank (26-28 miles/gallon). Typically, that's 2 1/2 to 3 weeks of normal driving for me. Not bad for a 2 ton Buick I think :P .

Time to answer questions:
V35/V36 Skyline: same price as a infiniti G35/G37 coupe
350Z: base price is 27,980 US Dollars, can go up to around 40k though
GT-R: Expected price is anywhere between 60-80k.

Anyways, Nuker, yeah, you could save 30-40k tuning up a 350z, but the 350Z's VQ35 doesn't even have a turbo on it, so it won't just be an easy tweak to get it up to 480hp. Plus, the tunability of the VQ35 engine is definitely lower than that of the VR38DETT if tuners manage to crack the "un-moddable ECU" (according to GT-R engineers). I mean, the fact is that he turbos are running at 9-10 psi. COnsidering the fact that people got the old R34 GT-R to run it's turbo at 1.5-1.7 bar pretty easily (1 bar= about 14.5 psi, so, 1.5 is a little over 20), some people even run their boost up to 2 BAR, or a little over 30 psi (that's a LOT if your not car savvy). Meh, it may not be on a stock turbo, but something like a HKS turbo instead, but still: http://www.gtr.co.uk/forum/upload/81398-ho...do-you-run.html

COnsidering a HKS turbo costs 2.2k, that's pretty damn good. (although you might need to buy some more stuff, like a better intercooler, boost controller, blow off, etc.).

Also, you can buy R32-R34 Skyline GT-Rs around here. Since Motorex and some other companies shipped in modified Skylines (left hand drive, new glass, etc.) when that was still legal, so the US isn't taking out cars that are already here, but you can't import one from Japan anymore. A link:

The 350Z does have a huge aftermarket backing, so getting a turbo kit or a supercharger kit for them is no big deal. Yeah turbo kits, especially those with upgraded turbos and intercoolers cost around $4-6k, but that's a fraction of the $30-40k saved. Even if a full exhaust system is purchased, a valve job and some minor motor mods are done, you're still saving around $10-$15k over the new GT-R.

The fact is though, that the body of the 350Z is not nearly as good as that of the GT-R. higher coefficient drag, less stiff (worse handling), theres stuff you can't fix with just aftermarket parts. no matter how much you spend on the 350Z for aftermarket parts, the GT-R is better at the core. Anyways, If you spent 15k on the 350Z to get it to be as fast as the GT-R in accel/top speed, and give it the same power, spend 2k on a GT-R for a better turbo, and it'll leave th 350Z eating it's dust.
