Chris, the Nazis were responsible for what most people consider the worst thing mankind ever did. Today's Germany is radically different from the empire of hatred and terror it used to be 60 years ago and if you call a German a Nazi simply for the fun of it, it is a heavy insult for most because it implies that throughout these six decades, nothing has changed here. I don't know how often you already made these jokes, but if MYLO told you to stop, you should have stopped.

Yeah, but Nazi is still a heavier insult than let's say arsehole, especially here.
Until a few years ago, we've literally been taught to feel ashamed for what we are because of what happened back then.
Also, I heard of some people calling others Nazis without actually knowing what it means which is just poor.

For the record, I do not think that we should feel ashamed for what happened 60 years ago, especially not if we haven't been even born back then.
