Its not the Media. I have tried Vista and hated it. My friends asked my to upgrade their brand new Computers from Vista to XP. Its not that Vista is bad its just that XP does a better job and Vista literally has zero to offer. Network File transfer are slower, Moving files around is slower, games run slower, compatibility is a bitch. What the hell is Vista actually giving over XP except for Aero.

Well for some very specific uses Vista did shave baout 30 mins of waiting a day off a friend's mphys project.

Using notepad to remove spaces or tabs in XP takes a long time (well for files 10000 lines long) but and older PC running Vista it was done in a fraction of a second, and from what I've heard the new format office files are tiny in comparison to the 1997-2002-XP ones.

Vista is fine if you use

-Dual Core
-4GB Memory
-512MB Graphics Card
-7200rpm, +200GB HD

like me. This also means that to most others, it isn't.

stick with XP. Windows 7 will be out by late last year because Vista is too bloated and unstable so coporate take up has been lacking. MS seems to be heading in the right direction with 7.

Why is everything becoming "Vista compatible" if it is such a failure, for the average computer user. Vista > XP.
A work in progress, leave me alone.

If you're Microsoft, yes. M$ really wants to sell Vista, so they're sponsoring all kinds of people to support it. But in the end, if it's just not good enough, people won't buy it. And I'm certainly not.

So soon? I thought 2010 was set as a release date?

With Vista dieing a death one the business market, MS is taking a big hit in the profit margins, this will not go down well to them so they'll try to get the next (and hopefullyt better) OS out soon.

I have seen bloody VGA monitors carry this stupid logo. WTF!!!! Even a toaster is compatible with a VGA monitor. :P
I understand if it was an HDMI Monitor but its just stupid putting that on a VGA monitor because the damn output is universal and piratically anything can use it.

MS is tight lipped but they are pushing for an early release because large corporate adoption has been luke warm. Corporate licensing is their bread and butter and if those guys shift away from windows platform then the whole MS biosphere of Office, Windows Server etc etc would come crashing down.

With all respect, but even for MS it isn't possible to create an OS in about 1 year, at least not loaded with bugs. So I still assume that W7 will come 2010 soonest.

Oh and according to this here, it seems that there will be also a 32-bit version of it :P

The Indication that its gonna be 32bit is more supportive that Windows 7 will be brought forward in release because the original plan was for Vista being the last 32bit OS but since most hardware is still not 64bit capable so MS moving back to 32bit indicates thats MS wants to burry Vista as soon as possible.

Also FYI: Windows XP came out just 1 years after Windows ME and 1 and a 1/2 years after Windows 2000 so it is more then capable of releasing an OS so soon and another thing is that many of the Vista "Features" (WINFS just to name one) were cut but they should be ready to be launched to the public by now. So most of the Changes would rather be in Fixing up on Vista codes and Add these features then to actually go code stuff from scratch.

MS lowers its prices on boxed Vista in range of 28% to maximal 48%. This means, that it will only affect users, who won't buy the OEM version of it (already installed on a buyable computer).

MS had also a feeling that they screwed up the marketing, of "Vista Capable" computers. While many customers complained about the loads of versions (some even without the shiney 3 dim. operation interface "Aero"), one thing was a major fault:

Quote

Windows Vista's January 2007 launch was plagued by delays. To keep consumers buying PCs in the holiday season of 2006, Microsoft and PC makers promised free Vista upgrades later to shoppers who bought Windows XP computers.

Quote

Company e-mails produced in court chronicle Microsoft settling on a plan to market a wide range of XP-based PCs as "Vista Capable" after company officials realized in early 2006 that 30 percent or fewer of computers on the market could run the full-fledged version of Vista with Aero.

Quote

The e-mails also showed Microsoft lowering the bar for "Vista Capable" to protect Intel Corp.'s sales of some widely used chips that weren't powerful enough for the full Vista experience.

How can such a company fool its customers that much. :P
