The Final Hour

The story follows the efforts of a group of teens through the end of the world as we know it. Natural disasters and nuclear weapons have more or less destroyed the world as we know it. Three "super nations" remain, battling for supremacy...

---**---Now Onto The Story---**---

Chapter One: Morning Mist

0500 Hours, 2050
Cambridge, Massachusetts
MIT Military Technology Facility
Top Secret Meeting

"Men, we have reached a stage, were there is nothing we can do. Between Global Warming and the chinese threatening a nuclear attack on Tehran, the doomsday clock is moving forward. The USA has gone onto DefCon 3, and appears to be close to moving on to DefCon 2. I suggest we implement Evac-4, Operation Polar Storm. This may be the only chance we have of surviving..."

At the same time as this discussion was being had behind closed doors, Alex was stirred awake by his alarm clock. Grumbling about the swim practice he was about to go to, he got out of bed and went to the bathroom. He hated thinking he was a bit of a narcissist, but, to a slight extent, he was. He looked at himself in the mirror and thought about the cold water he would be swimming in in less than half an hour. Then he thought of his girlfriend and how they planned to spend today together. That, and the rich aroma of coffee on the burner downstairs, cheered him up. Little did he know what was to happen today...

This is just the beginning, I would like some comments. It's pretty much the back story for the mod I'm working on. I also promise it will get more exciting.

The Eastern Refugee Alliance- A rag tag coalition of people coming from the former countries of China, Russia, India, and Japan. They rely on dirt cheap soldiers and equipment, using shear manpower to accomplish there goals

The Western Warlords- A loosely allied group of warlords from former Western European countries and America. They use Old technology, prefering hard hitting units with heavy armor at the loss of speed.

The Antarctic Alliance- The scientists of the world, along with many others, evacuated to Antarctica during the beginning of this age, when the global warming induced storms began, they banded together. They use the most advanced technology, and favor speed, range, and firepower over armor, specialising in Hit n' run tactics.

Sorry for the DP, but here's part two of chapter one

Two hours later... (0700 Hours)
Alex still had no idea what was to happen soon, but he did know how much "fun" morning swim practice was. Oh well, he thought, it was over now. As he drove towards one of the MIT labs for his first class, he heard a crack. Nothing more than a sudden sound, but at 7 AM on a saturday morning, you don't hear much. There was almost no traffic at this time, so Alex pulled over and looked around for the source of the sound. "What the...". He saw a car. With a hole and a spiderweb of cracks around it in the cars windshield. What the hell is going on? This is what happens in the movies. This doesn't happen in real life! His brain refused to believe what he had just seen. His professor, James "Wizard" Hiyugasha, was slumped in his seat. Without a head. It looked like a he had been shot. No shit he's been shot Alex thought... He really didn't want to believe that this innocent professor on climate change had just been assassinated... but... he had.

Before he knew what he was doing, Alex was off. Sprinting toward the lab and forgetting his car, primal instinct had taken over. He didn't want to end up the same way his professor had. It wasn't until he got there and started banging on the doors that he realized the labs wouldn't be open for another half hour, and that he had intended to get breakfast with his girlfriend before heading in and finishing up his ballistics lab. As he started to calm down, he took out his phone with trembling hands... and remembered the battery was dead...

Zhen Ji was good at her job. She had spent years learning and honing her craft at the academy back home. By the time Alex got to the scene, she had her gun neatly disassembled and packed up in a bag. No one would find out about his death until several hours later, and by that time she would be on a jet back to china. That was what she thought... until Alex showed up. She would not let some kid screw this up (although Alex was actually only 2 months younger than she). However, the risk of firing her rifle twice on a city street was too great. So she decided to pursue him...

Notice the not so subtle references of some people here. And don't expect it to stop. Anyone who wants to be featured probably can be...

It seems to me that Japan, being the Second Largest economy in the world and being one of the world's most technologically advanced nations, would probably be bettered suited to one of the other two.

There's this fancy thing called an "alternate universe".

The reason they are not included is that they were invaded during China later on, so the US nuked them. No more japan...

Finally bothered to update...
Chapter Two, Part one.
Operation: Shining Path

Central Command, Peoples Republic of China
0800 Hours, May 1, 2050
Another Top Secret Meeting
A vague crackling sound emits from the communications array attached to a large flat panel television, before a crisp voice is emitted from the speaker. Target Neutralized. General "Smiles" Kwai *(Authors note, this is not the same Kwai from ZH)* cracked a rare grin, aggravating the scars along his jaw that had earned him his nickname. "Comrades, I believe it is now safe to initiate operation Shining Path, we have a clear route to secure Indian manufacturing facilities and begin our conquest". The men sitting around the table nodded grimly. The plan they had been discussing while they waited for news on the elimination of the Climatologist/spy was nothing bright. The optimistic casualty figures predicted the death of nearly a billion conscripts. And those were figures for if they took India in a week, and the Indians did not retaliate with nuclear weapons, which was highly unlikely. These figures also assumed an easy acquisition of other territory not touched for hundreds of years. "Comrade General Kwai, we may have a problem. Someone saw him!". The voice coming from the transceiver for a second time shattered the solemn silence... and enraged the general. "Do you mean to say, that they will know?" "Its unlikely sir... but yes, its possible". "Fuc*! Zhen, I cannot evacuate you now. You will have to find your own way home... or kill him".

Part two coming soon.
