It depends on the user if he/she likes Vista or not. I have it, I didn't like it for 2 or 3 weeks, but when I disabled that overprotection stupidity, I liked it. And most of the games I have work on Vista, one way or another. It seems that I'm an induvidual who likes Vista on this forum :D

Yeah, Vista feels much better after turning that UAC crap off. Many issues remain still.

UAC (wikipedia)

The two things that people using Vista complain about seem to be compatibility and the said UAC.
About compatibility: I am frustrated myself that many good apps that ran under XP do not run under Vista, but it would be stupid to scrap innovations (like the UAC) only to maintain compatibility. There are points where you must move on (exaggarated:"We cannot force applications to do that because Win3.1 software would not run properly anymore!"). Besides, Vista has a decent compatibility mode imo.
About the paranoia: I can write an application that deletes your program files folder without you noticing and cannot be detected by anti-virus software in seconds. It will not work under Vista because of UAC. Tell me that you do not want UAC.
However, I'd like to have a Windows where Admins are Admins and users are users, not that everyone-uses-admin-so-we-just-dont-give-the-admin-admin-rights crap.

Thanks Underflow!

The UAC looks similar to Comodo firewall pro's active defense :D

Perhaps WinMin and Vienna may make a change.

Just use XP SP2, and if you want the looks of Vista, get a nice little theme.

The one you posted on the 1st page of this topic.

Quoted from a website.

Click on “Start” and select “Control Panel”.

If you use the Reception of the Control panel, click on “User Accounts and Family Safety”, then on “User Accounts”. If you use Classic posting of the Control panel, double-click on “User Accounts”.

Click on the link “Change Security Settings”, a message asking you the confirmation to continue posts itself (it is about the UAC which wants to be sure that you have the right to reach his options), then you have to click on button [Continue].

Strip the box “Uses to use Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer” then validate by [OK], it will then be asked to you to start again the computer to apply the changes, or to cancel the modification if necessary…

From now on UAC is deactivated, attention however not to do too many silly things now that it is not there anymore to warn you, especially when you remove a shortcut!

yes i am i want to get red of this demon of an os it is the worst thing made by man DO NOT GET VISTA EVEN IF ITS FREE only 3 programs out of me entire collection of stuff works only 3 games work as well the compatability is crud and its way to protective why would i run a program if i did not want it to run

edit: make that 2 games and 3 programs now after last nights "update"

I've never had any compatibility problems with Vista, even games I've had since 1995 work on it. (Even though it has a cow when I've had the comp on for more than 5 hours. -_-")

HOW.

Ugh damnit, I really don't like reading, anyways, just wait for Vienna SP2 and then upgrade to it. You should probably just stick with XP for the time being :wtfh:.

And yes Underflow your correct XP is the most stable OS out of Microsoft's OSes, However it's still vulnerable. Windows Vienna may get a new GUI/UI it's meant to be like 3DIsh.

I would have said Windows 2000 personally.

Windows 200 is very stable at the expense of software compatibility, especially for games. Windows XP rectified this problem, but in turn became less stable (but still very stable for a known Windows at that time  ) than Win2K.

To which I said, I personally would have said Windows 2000. As in, 2000 is in my opinion, the most stable.
My personal preference for use though, is XP, for the reasons Waris stated.
