The Chronicles of Spellborn

Think it's time for me to put the attention at this game. We've heard the term 'Can this beat WoW?' being thrown around for a year about now with most new potential MMO's that were released but none of them could even come close. And well, neither will this one, because it's not very well known. Which is the reason I make this topic.

Why this game might interest you unlike others, is due to it's main goal is to be UNLIKE other MMO's in a few key game elements. This blog here sums it up nicely:

The Chronicals of Spellborn

This game has the potential of being the best MMO ever made (well, for me anyway happy ).

You're probably asking yourself "what the hell this title has that makes it so good". You're certainly telling yourself "meh, it's just another MMO where everyone tries to have the best gear and we all end up like clones." or "I hate MMO's, I always get ganked by no lives that only kill me because their full of epics."

Well if you think that way, this is a game for you. Here are a few specifications about the game:

- Fully customizable characters:

Although this may seem pretty logical, most games are pretty lame regarding this point. How many times have I come upon clones of my rogue in WoW... It's just a small feature, but it's really pleasing when you can have a trully unique character.

- Clothing and Armour have no statistics:

Although it might seem strange, it is actually a good thing. This idea fits in the fully customisable side of the character. In 99% of MMO's, all high level characters have the same armour, and low levels look like they have mugged a homeless guy.
In TCOS, you can wear whatever you want, as long as you like it. That way, you can have a really original avatar and don't have to look for gear that has good stats but a crappy look (think WoW).

- Customisable Stats, Spells and Weapons:

As I said above, armors has no stats on them. They therefore created "tokens" (which would be the green, blue and purple drops in WoW) that basically work like materia in FF7, wheras you can slot them in your armour and weapons to increase stats. These tokens can also be slotted in your spells to create a trully unique template, and you can also create your own epic weapons (skin, stats and even name it). How cool is that ???

- Original combat system:

Unlike most MMO's there is no lock feature nor any auto-attack. Here combat really requires skill, as you will actually have to dodge attacks.

The combat system reminds me a bit of Guild Wars, as you need to choos a "skill deck" but it's taken to a higher level.

Second to that, the game world is rather original, in the MMO world, that is. Think up the principe of Super Mario Galaxy. A world exploded into large pieces kept together by a massive DeadSpell which is in between any of the pieces, or shards, and you can travel between them, for instance using massive battleships to travel through the DeadSpell. The game world itself can also be altered with certain timetravel quests which go to before the world was divided into shards.

It interests me.
