If I were going into a swamp, I would want something short and stout so it doesn't get caught on branches and shit.

All guns can jam; usually it's ammunition itself that causes it, along with how well you take care of the gun. AK's can jam because they use shitty russian ammunition that isn't the highest of quality.

I went target shooting with an M-16 or one of it's relatives, and I was surprised by how well it shot. I mean, the lower recoil allowed me to control the aim better. The only reason it jammed at all is because we bought Wolf ammunition, which is made in Mother Russia ( what a coincidence.......). But all in all, it made me want to get one, especially since I could use it for Deer hunting, and I could drag that thing through brush easier than my shotgun.

AK-47 is better than the M-16 series in almost every way save weight and accuracy.

I still look sideways at stuff like the Stryker or M-16A4, but I do have to give the nod to the guys that have made these rigs really fight. They are full or problems, or so I am told, but the men are making do with what they have. This is what makes the US Military so damn good, being some of the most determined and clever troops fielded in a military force in history.

Mosin Nagants are better in a way though. We went shooting with one at my friends house ( he is lucky; backyard shooting range!) and we were shooting at old cars, and the mosin nagant was more acurate for me than a garand; you can get off more shots with a garand but I'm for precision. Sort of.

No one seems to know about the SMLE. It is very accurate, and has a capability to exceed the Garand in terms of firing rate, and its a bolt-action.
