nuke cannons actually exist?

Waris's Photo Waris 11 May 2008

Is it because photographers are placed from a H-bomb detonation further away than they would a fission bomb detonation?

That would likely be it. Depending on the yield of the weapon, a few km can be a safe distance, or well over 30 km or more. But pressure waves still go at the same speed.

Yes. You wouldn't want to get them mixed up :P

I gues it must be because they stood closer than 20 clicks from the test because 1 minute just doesn't sound right.

Do you know why we hear a sound when an explosion occurs? The "explosive sound"?

Because the air moves.

Yes, but why don't we instead hear a swish? Instead of that ripping throaty sort of noise?

Actually the nuke cannon wouldn't of killed itself, that was the nuke rifle they were building for the jetpack, hoverjeep, and jeep (the radiation would've kiled them or at least harmed them) but the nuke cannon worked perfectly but was cancelled, it was impractical when you think about it, it would've killed any infantry it was supporting. Also, it was HEAVY, SLOW, EXPENSIVE, VULNERABLE, and having nuclear shells on it, if it would've been hit it could've leaked or worse.......

A real-life nuke would sound more like thunder. Because of the distance, the sound is scattered and spread apart, and it is reflected from many directions. It would sound like a loud deep rumbling, not like a bang.

Hi! It's the first time I am writing. About the discussion of tactical nuclear arnament. Nuke cannons were first developed in USSR in the mid 1960's, they had a range of up to 60 km and were designated for defensive operations. Radiation prevents any chances of infantry to advance, as well as support vehicles. Only T-55 (the first tank for nuclear warfare) was able to do it. This may explain the reason why nearly 65 000 were built which is the most produced tank of all times. The second one was T-34/85 35 000 units.

As for modern warfare, tactical nukes are still in use, Russian battleships have tactical nuclear missles and shells. I think mig-35 is able to carry two tactical nuclear warheads as well.
