Yes, the time is upon us once more, we get to watch the truest demonstration of block voting once more as Eurovision kicks off. Those of you without access to the BBC I do feel sorry for you missing out on Wogan's commentry, the only redeeming factor of this event.

Watch out for pretty people and dodgy costumes, for once the UK entry isn't horrific (I apologise profusely for this), but the Irish have beaten us, they have failed to qualify for the final. If you want to find out why, Youtube Irish eurovision 2008 entry, it will take about 20 seconds for you to figure out why. Perhaps RTE (IIRC) are still broke from the 1990's eurovision pummellings.

In case you care the Swede's are tipped to win.

Our entry isn't actually that bad this year. For a Eurovision song, that is.

This certainly is not one of those moments of national pride at all - although I will admit Wogan's commentary is pretty darn good. A night to laugh about, and then forget about forever after that. As for the Swedes - she's a good singer but nothing great - but that's the beauty of the contest - you may not be very good, but you're surely still far better than the rest!

And the UK entry is OK - only downside is that he's a failed reality TV person = we don't actually like him that much...

You assume I don't know this? England amongst 3 others automatically get to the final because we pay for the competition, however this brushes the politics a lot closer and should not be commented on.

Given the quality of our entries I look forward to 'nil points'

Haha, RoI has been trying to fail at this competition for years now after winning it effortlessly back-to-back.

Me, I only watch this tripe to see the hot announcers read out their country's verdict.

20 seconds? Good lord, I switched it off at 10 :loel:

Actually, it's "nul points", the "n" is nasal and the "s" is silent.

Well I just want an array of attractive women to win, since the performance will be paraded on TV and they'll have to do it again next year. :O

Ahh, Eurovision. I love how countries like Armenia are authorised to take part in a competition which used to be about European music. No offence to Armenia, but who's going to join next? Kazakhstan? Mongolia? The Yanks!? Actually, I don't even know why I end up watching this show every bloody year, must be the horrible Saturday evening programme on the other channels. This time around, our entry isn't as shitty as the ones we had in the past few years but it doesn't even matter: Our 12 points will go to Turkey for some magical reason and we might get like 3 petty little points from the Netherlands and Austria at the end of the day. The whole competition is a sodding farce. It's all about bloc-voting, immigrants and tits...

Sorry if this comment is borderline-political but I just tried to sum up the very essence of this contest.

Its not really a contest but more of who has the most balkan neighbours imo
Why not have an eastern and western eurovision? that would cancel out the block voting and hopefully make it a bit fairer.
Although, we wouldnt have wogans awesome commentary :loel:

Ah yes, I remember one year of Eurovision... Think it was 2004. Either way, why is Israel allowed to send up plastic compositions of blonde hair and tits on stage to serenade us all?
I'm not complaining about the competitors... on the contrary I think it sport to comment on the "heat" level of the contestants.

But why is Israel there? Last I checked Israel isn't part of Europe. :loel:

It's ran by a company funded by the national broadcasters, if Israel give some money they'll be allowed to enter. Heck if the US threw enough money at it they'd probably get in.

I still think the best thing about eurovision is half of europe just has a laugh at it, and the other half take it seriously. I won't watch it though, because I have better things to do.

And dear god at the ireland entry, how did that get past any type of screening?

And why not? I'd be quite happy to look at a attractive Latvian hostess with a spine tingly sexy accent for the 2009 show. :P

I'm not in Europe so I'm a bit confused after youtubing some of the videos. Is the point of winning to have the best sounding song? Some of the songs are really bad is all...
