I've just removed the link to that critter, I don't want to see it returned, or anything like it.
As for the argument in the thread, back to topic of I'll lock this.

Slightly off topic but still very Spore-related. Here is a wiki-style encyclopaedia about the game. It isn't complete yet but there's already plenty of information. You will also be able to create your own buildings, space ships and vehicles in the later stages of your species' evolution. Hopefully there'll be tools to make legged fighting machines.

I bought the game yesterday and from the brief impressions I got from the tribal- and civ-phase, I have to say that I'm mildly disappointed. They basically play like an RTS but it lacks many of the important gameplay mechanics which are genre STANDARDS these days. That alone wouldn't be a problem, simple games are easily accessible, but there's one particular thing in tribal which pisses me off: Food is the ONLY resource and you need it to 1.) recruit new blokes, 2.) feed your blokes (which, apparently, is something you have to ORDER them to do which is just plain stupid) and 3.) to construct buildings. Since you constantly have to feed your guys, it's hard to save food for a bigger investment (=a building) and that slows things down considerably. It's also a bit sad that the military way still seems to be the easiest method to advance.
It's not a BAD game though, just another example of how dangerous a hype can be. Spore is by no means horrible and the product itself is amazing; it's just not amazing in the way it plays. Casual players will love it since they don't mind being treated unfairly by a game (example: Mario Kart Wii) but those with experience will notice a few flaws. They don't make Spore unplayable but it could have been much better.
Anyway, I'll try to log in to my Spore account - yesterday's attempts failed; first the servers were offline, then the account was invalid for some reason - and then, hopefully, we can establish a little E-Studios Spore community. I'd suggest every ES member who plays Spore to post his ingame name here so we can download stuff from eachother. My account is Rayburn2588 (if I can get it to work).
EDIT
Scratch that last bit. The bloody thing won't work and I'm majorly pissed off. I created an entirely new email-address to make a new account, reinstalled the game and guess what? The registration is fucked. I'm sick of this now. Seeing how "complete" this game is, I'm not going to play it for long anyway and now I'll just play offline. Dear bloody bleeding Christ, what a joke.

Read this earlier and was gonna comment now, but then read your edit and I have to say that sucks. I absolutely detest the whole registration and so on, for which I'd think mostly EA is responsible and I could rant on forever about the silly EA updater, but yeah, it still is worth it in my opinion, I mean in what other game do you have the "Empire of the Blue Spotted Wongle-Dongle" threatening to crush you with their "supreme military power".
On your comments about the different ages, I partially agree. When I first started off I really loved it, cell age is brilliant, IMO, but a bit too limited, so it seems to get old quite quickly. Then the creature stage would be my second favourite a fun system, endless possibilities to evolve your creature and randomly meet others (Man I so want to meet Fail Gator by coincidence) and fight them. But when I finally arrived at tribal stage, I must admit, I was not very impressed, Tribal is easily the most boring and least imaginative of the 5 stages, I can't see myself playing it often, probably only if I build races from scratch. Civilization was quite a bit better, but still not as good as the others, though designing houses & especially machines was interesting. Finally, I wearily arrived at space age and I realized how epicly awesome it is. Ever since then... well beware of the Tyrannosaurus Imbalancius Empire, or it shall consume you. Also note: the space to space combat seemed actually quite cool.

I agree with your opinion regarding the stages; I really liked Cell and Creature - since the latter basically IS the creature creature plus actual gameplay - but Tribal and Civ felt pretty lacklustre. On the one hand, they seemed to lack basic mechanics which are standard in strategy games since years but on the other, the handling is unintuitive and slow at the same time. Space however was really nice (that is, after you're done with all the tutorial missions) and the dimension of everything is simply mind-blowing, but as you read yourself: I can't log in to the bloody thing which means that I'm confined to the content provided by the developers.
