@JB: I was planning on putting a hatch and MG on the top, but now that you mention it, I don't see a spot on the turret where it wouldn't interfere with something else.
Unmanned it is.
@Wiz and Ka1000: Hmm, I see what you mean. I'll fix that right away.
@Sgt. Rho: I'm not familiar with the second one, but yes, it was heavily influenced by the Leopard.
@Scope & pirate: They are retractable :
@Soul: That isn't very far from what I had planned. Most of my models are part of this little game/story idea I have been working on for a few years. Canada will be involved (sort of), but I'm not going to give you anymore details than that.

I can't really see why people compare it to the Leopard 2... it looks a whole lot more like a Challenger 2
When it comes to feedback, I agree with Wizzard: Try shifting the turret a bit backwards - I think it would look alot better.
The tracks look a bit thin, so I'd make them a bit thicker (and perhaps also a bit wider). I would also suggest increasing the gun diameter somewhat.
I personally prefer tanks with a bit longer side skirts, but it's up to you wether to change it or not.

Saying that the turret is unmanned doesn't make that much sense, though... Tanks with unmanned turrets tend to have as small turrets as possible in order to become as small a target as possible (which is the main reason why one would want unmanned turrets in the first place).
The turret on this tank, on the other hand, is anything but small.

I can make them thicker, but making them noticeably wider might be quite difficult. I'll see what I can do.
*I would also suggest increasing the gun diameter somewhat.
The gun is already 140mm, and I've already redone it once, so I probably won't change that.

That's a very good point. I'll try think of some good placement for a hatch, otherwise I will likely have to redo the whole turret.

Introducing the Pop-up point defense laser system:
This laser-based active protection system utilizes it's intense laser and the parent vehicles own on-board sensor systems to locate and destroy incoming missiles, and can be use against infantry out in the open. However, it's sensitive internal components are quite delicate, and will need to be sheltered when equipped on vehicles utilizing or incorporating missile or rocket weaponry (including the upcoming Hydra project MBT line) as the heat from the engines and the exhaust can damage them. This system will be present on all future SDB weapon platforms.
This is the final major hurdle in finishing the tank, and had me stuck for quite a while.
But now that I have finally finished it, all that is really left is some minor details and touch-ups.
Also while I am talking about the Hydra I will take the time to tell you that I am planning some more variants of it. They are as follows:
The base variant: what I had posted, 140mm cannon, fifty cal on the turret, 8 missiles, and medium armour.
A tank killer variant: Larger turret, railgun, 6 long range ATGM's, heavy armour.
An urban warfare variant: Shorter barrel, more armour, mortars instead of missiles, possibly a heavy armour secondary turret (like on the Sliepnir).
All variants will have PDL's (the urban warfare one will always be up).
questions, comments, critics always welcome.

Questions, comments critics welcome as usual.

The poly count is around 120K, so yeah it is the most detailed model I've done to date. (most of that is in the treads, actually more than half of it at around 35K apiece.) I would like to texture these someday, but I'm using Sketchup so I'm fairly limited when it comes to that.

Thank you for the comment,.
I'll probably update this vehicle a little bit while I'm working on the two variants, so I'll keep what you said in mind.
EDIT: Also, the exhaust pipes would be tucked away behind the small grill on the very back. I haven't really decided if it can ford rivers or not so I can't tell you if this is a bad spot or not.

Ladies and gents, I present the Hydra tank killer in all it's glory:
As well as a sneak preview of my current project, the Claymore:
I'm hoping to finish this one up sometime early next month (depending on the quantity and quality of my new christmas toys.)
I'm also going to try to get a side by side render of the two tanks; hope to get that before the month is out.
Anyway, C&C welcome.
