Mark Intellect, you don't need to tell us how to do our jobs.

Moved to ZH Editing...

Dust Walker, someone more knowledgeable should be able to help you out with this so sit tight. :)

A 5 star general is the highest rank ever given in reality.

Not so. George Dewey was promoted to the rank of Admiral of the Navy, a 6-star rank, on March 24, 1903, retroactive to March 2, 1899. General John Pershing arguably held a six-star rank.

My thought was to make it take longer to get promoted. Here is my promotion/point scheme:

1 star: 0 points: 1 ability point
2 star: 1000 points: 1 ability point
3 star: 3000 points: 2 ability points
4 star: 6000 points: 2 ability points
5 star: 10000 points: 3 ability points
6 star: 15000 points: 3 ability points

John Pershing held the Rank " General of the Army of the United States " and could basically choose his own Emblem, but he kept the Stars. I do not believe that was actually a 6 Star General.

And if I recall Correctly, some President had the "highest" Rank of all time, a Rank wich was only made for him. If I could only recall his name. :)

Hmm, I did saw some mods with 10 ranks or so... Although they weren't count as "X Star Generals".

First, let's deal with your intended promotion/point scheme first. Open Rank.ini. Rank 1 is 1 star, rank 2 is 2 star, and so on. To make it longer to get promoted, edit this:

 SkillPointsNeeded = 800

For the points granted, edit this:

 SciencePurchasePointsGranted = 1

Now, time to create your 6th star promotion. Put this into your Rank.ini:

Rank 6
RankName = INI:RankLevel6 ;The string name. Use in conjunction with the str/csf file.
SkillPointsNeeded = 5000 ;Insert your desired value.
SciencesGranted = SCIENCE_Rank6 ;This is to unlock high level powers. Is already in-game so no need to add yourself.
SciencePurchasePointsGranted = 3 ;Insert your desired value.
End

That's basically it. Pretty simple eh?

Go to 0swpatch.big. It's Data\Generals.str. It is not important though as it is only the in-game name for the 6th star.

I don't see that file in Shockwave. I only see a 00swpatch.gib that I can't open.

Rename it to .big and open it with FinalBig. Then extract Data\INI\Rank.ini (and optionally Data\Generals.str, it's not really necessary but you'll get a missing string error instead of a rank name if you don't add an entry here) and make the edits JJ suggested.

Just open the .gib manually. It doesn't need to be .big to be opened with Finalbig (this will also prevent unwanted launcher issues).

I made the changes and it had no effect. I then changed the same things in INIZH and the game crashes. wtf...

The game crashes when you make a change that the game doesn't like.

Check World Builder to debug. World Builder will provide you with an assertion line error so you will know where you went wrong.

World Builder crashes too. It won't load. All I did was add ranklevels 6, 7 and 8 (I changed my mind a bit) in INIZH and the Rank.ini file and then named them what I wanted in Generals.str.

Might you actually have to add some sort of upgrades/sciences to the rank so as to make them less useless? i should think that would be a "MUST". But idk... :P

I'm not sure how having more points is useless. But here is the new scheme:

Lieutenant Colonel 0 pts. 1 upgrade
Colonel 1000 pts. 1 upgrade
Brigadier General 3000 pts. 1 upgrade
Major General 6000 pts. 2 upgrades
Lieutenant General 10000 pts. 2 upgrades
General 15000 pts. 2 upgrades
General of the Army 21000 pts. 3 upgrades
General of the Armies 28000 pts. 3 upgrades

I added Colonels because there is code for 8 ranks already there. I think I might have things become available at ranks 1, 3, 5 and 7 once I figure out how to edit General Powers. If I can't make that work, I may do ranks 1, 4 and 7. I just find myself using General Powers to wipe people out too much rather than actually fighting a war like a real man, so to speak. So if I can only get them by fighting a LOT of battles, it will be more fun and more of a challenge for me.

So...it just does whatit has always done with 1-5 Star General, then it starts doing mine with Major General, presumably because it is the first of my ranks to cost more than 5 Star General costed originally. How do I fix this??

I'm not exactly sure what the problem is, but if you mean visually rank 6,7,8 on the UI. You need to edit the WND files.
