By studying their enemies closely as they fought one another, the Empire of the Rising Sun was able to secretly develop a variety of weapons designed to exploit their specific weaknesses. One of the most notorious and emblematic examples of this has to be the dual-form pilot-assisted combat robot known as the Mecha Tengu. Thousands of men have already lost their lives to these strange, fast, and terrifying weapons.

Ermm the transition animation looks, weird to say the least. Aside from that, neat unit, and doesn't look as OP as other units have appeared in their videos - have we seen something closer to it's true form? And also, I'd love the thing to walk and EA to have put some time into animations instead of the GODAWFUL hovering locomotor. That is hideous.

Yeah, wtf is with the hovering. Why the hell can't they just make it walk?

This is slacking.

It's an interessting Unit Idea for sure, but I simply hate the looks of it in Mecha Mode.

Wow, that looks terrible.
I think the most business EA will get from me in regards to this game is a quick *wink* play of a friends copy *wink* just so I can know for sure if it is as bad as it looks.

@Kenny: It's the wings plus the gun.

@Aftershock reason why it hovers is because you can't have a mech unit walk on water. :v:

Hence fly the damn thing over it and require user interaction. Sorry, but the hovering is shoddy. Least they could have done is make it walk on land and switch to hover over water. Sorry but I find that very lacklustre.

This is one of my favourite units in the game - love the sequence in the way that it transforms from ground to air.

If EA did that...Those Tengu's would of lost it's AA ability... Who knows they might be able to walk in the expansion. 8|

Nah same abilities, just make it us the current hover animation over the water, and switch to walking on land. Both forms can still become the jet fighter.

Well, this at least shows that EA do used more works on the game. Way cooler than beta Tengu, and I love that fast fire rate and the hovering animation.

This unit seems very interesting in its concept but I feel its execution is somewhat lacking. EA is being lazy by not making it walk on land. So what if it can't cross bodies of water? Transform ffs! And the jet itself looks too old-school next to all of the Empire's ZOMG futuristic anime stuff.

EDIT: P.S. Did anyone here ever play Dead or Alive? Tengu was totally crap.

Does it honestly matter that it doesn't walk? I'll admit it would make more sense if it did, but you'd be deluding yourself if you were looking for things in this game to do so.
The artistic design of the unit is a deliberate nod to the unit's inspiration from animes and the mythical figure that gave it its name. It even said so. This is an alternate timeline, remember.
Of course I'm not telling you to like it, but it is a unique and interesting unit. Does that even matter? At all?

I would say yes it does. It would go to show that the dev team at EA decided to put in a little extra effort just to make thing look better. Also, yes I am sick of all the hover stuff in this game. I preferred the Generals airfields to be frank. I will still buy the game though because like anything (especially by EA) this game can't be perfect. I am just hoping for it to exceed C&C3 and -bleh- KW. Ok I'm done ranting now.

It's largely influenced by Valkyries from the Macross series. While in gerwalk mode, they too only hovered and didn't walk.

JB's got the money on this one. It may not to be to everyone's taste but then again, the entire goddamn side is a parody, the many stereotyped qualities that you assign to the Japanese. The very fact that the most logical thought is that it should have a bipedal locomotion is just fuel to the fire, zany (read: illogical) unit concepts that makes anime. While EA is what everyone loves to hate, it still means you can take time to appreciate the underlying artistic nature of something without blood, rage and aggro pouring out of your eyes.

I actually don't understand the purpose of giving a unit legs like that if it won't need them at all. The excuse for 'they are stabilizers' sounds super ridiculous to me. I for one, do very much like that concept of a Tengu walking. However, the hovering form in the little video is nowhere near this. Mainly becuase it is too small, and yes, it doesn't walk. Maybe from a gameplay design, this thing would be too slow if walking, but hey, why then just can't we let it fly over long distances. Hey, that would actually require some player interaction. :O, wouldn't that be amazing? :O

Maybe I should :chillpill2:

This man speaks the truth. Why should the unit be fast in both modes? Give an incentive other than switching targets to switch modes. For fast all-around travel use jet mode. For ground support use Mecha mode.

this unit reminds me of the viking from starcraft ii... i wonder if its the new style for rts to have transformable units now...
"Wanna know how I got these scars? My father was... a drinker... and a fiend. And one night he goes off crazier than usual. Mommy gets the kitchen knife to defend herself; he doesn't like that. Not... one... bit. So, me watching - he takes the knife to her, laughing while he does it. He turns to me, and says, "Why so SERIOUS?" So, he comes at me with the knife, "Why so SERIOUS?!" He sticks the blade in my mouth, "Let's put a smile on that face! And... why so serious? -The Joker (The Dark Knight)

Tell that to everyone who makes The Macross series, I have no memories of Valkyries in Gerwalk mode ever walking instead of hovering.
