Didn't think MS would have been able to pull it off but god damn they fucking did it. Running Windows 7 and its fast, Beautiful and Stable. Even though what i am running is mostly an Alpha version it looks pretty damn polished and finished. If MS doesn't fuck up then we could see MS regain some lost glory next year.

Looks like a stripped down version of Vista. Not that I mind, I just hope it goes easy on the RAM and CPU. Last time I runned Vista my PC was always busy with something... stupid Vista running on the background doing stuff it doesnt need to do.

It still does that but the system is always responsive. I got Vista and XP running too but out of all three this one is the most responsive and all three are fresh install. The UAC is no longer retarded and the GUI is actually functional rather then the mess that was vista.

I am sure by "need that" he means the Windows 7 alpha. But it does look quite lovely and if it is everything that you described I am going to want to get my hands on this. :)

Vista was a commercial failure, businesses still want to stay on XP or 2k, it will be a bad day when I am forced to use Vista, hell I'll ask to backdate a computer to XP/2K if it means I don't have to use Vista.

I wouldn't call it faster. Mostly placebo effect. We'll see, because it's only an alpha ( or pre-beta as Microsoft likes to call it ).

UAC sucks on Vista/Server 2008, the latter of which I'm running now as a secondary OS. I thought UAC was supposed to fix the issues of not running as an administrator account. Wrong. I'm using a limited account or whatever they call it. If they were going for the Unix model they failed horribly. I can't even burn a f***ing iso. Microsoft there's this thing called groups. Limited users should be put in the optical group. Plus they surprised a lot of developers with the permission thing and having them only write in the users directory. Very very Unix-like, but not very Windows-like. I wish I had time to revert back to my custom copy of XP. Only half decent thing was DirectX 10, which honestly, isn't that much better. OpenGL for the win.

Once I have time I think I'll switch back to XP for games, and Arch Linux for everything else.

i just did a reinstall of Vista, XP and 7 yesterday and 7 does boot up faster and is more responsive then Vista. never ran multiuser accounts on my system because i have to agree that windows always sucked with the way it handled it. Hate the fact that you have keep the user/home directory on the same drive as windows is kind of stupid and moving it in windows vista and 7 is a pain in the ass. But still after Vista, 7 is gonna get MS back in the game. Also looks like MS is gonna open up theme support in 7 so no more uxtheme.dll hacking required. And for the most part the new taskbar is extremely customisable.

Will Windows 7 come with that UAC (or whatever it's called) garbage? The last thing I want is my computers telling me how to or not run things.

Yup, but they said they are going to improve it greatly...

On a side note can anyone confirm that Windows will NOT use DRM? Because a Google search came up with Windows 7 with DRM...

All I want is that Windows 7 refrains from doing unnecessary background calculating like Vista does. And that its easier on the RAM. I mean... my Toshiba uses 800mb of RAM while idle. Whilest my gaming rig only uses 200mb with Windows XP Professional.

Looks nice. I'm assuming it uses Vista based drivers as opposed to XP based ones?

OK if someone wants to give this a try there is an even bettter patch out there that activates your windows 7 aswell as unlock all the goodies.
Its named
Windows_7_Activation_Plus_Orbit30 TPB

Had to remove 7 from direct boot because the boot loader of seven was causing problems with Vista. So now its running in a Virtualised machine within VM ware. Suprisingly both 7 and vista are running well. 7 is freaking fast even with only 1gb of ram. I am son going to use this as my main os once i get my netbook.

Oh one more thing. For those of you who are still keeping the quick lauch bar just for the show desktop button the area right of the clock also does the same so you can pin applications to the taskbar and get rid of the quick lauch bar.
