I just hope Windows 7 just stay out of my way.

I used Vista for like a week and I was sick of it asking me stuff and blocking my stuff and all this other bull. All I want is a stable, newer and shiny XP (but no so shiny that it eats 25% of my RAM).

I might upgrade if it's a more simpler OS, with small amounts of smart features, instead of copious amounts of needless features, and for the fact that I want t Direct X 10. 8|

Ok i got a spare laptop that use to run Ubuntu linux because vista and XP would BSOD on it due to a faulty bluetooth module on the mobo. But 7 ran just fine on it. infact it runs better then linux and this was shocking considering that it just has 512mb of ram and a shitty intel 915 graphics chip. I can't run Aero on it so some of the eye candy features are missing but the rest of it runs just fine.
The config of the laptop is as follows
Celeron 1.7 ghz
512 mb ram
60gb HDD
Not running any Anti Virus on this because of the ram limitation but apart from that the system i fully capable of being a full time computer.

I seriously cannot wait for this. Would you say the current Alpha is usable as a 'complete' OS in the meantime? How's compatibility with programs and such?

Umm fail. XP sucked when it was first released. This will hopefully be as good as Windows 98 was.

Moar details?

How's load times? Hardware Drivers? Updates? Anything else worth noting?

From what I've seen so far, it's widely compatible with software. Driver updates for GPU's etc. are plentiful. No special setup is required. The install took a while. After the bit where it loads the installer it stays on a plain blue screen for a while. But load times and boot times, as PotP said, are very quick. I much prefer it to XP and Vista.

EDIT: Driver updates for Graphic cards are also done autoimatically through Windows Update. And oddly enough, it actually gets the right ones. =o

WANT.

Might stick it on my new laptop after I get it...

Is it networkable with Vista / XP comps in its current state?

far more superior capability when it comes to networking. Till date not a single network issue has come up with me on it. Now i have it running on three machines and no compatibility issues.
On the desktop in VMware it ran flawlessly. Hell just for the kick i one booted it up with only 256mb of allocated ram and it still booted up and could still work but not as flawlessly.
Running it on a "Vista Capable" Acer 5500z. With a non aero compatible Intel 915 graphics accelerator and 512 mb of ram. Runs with no aero but runs on par or even better then Vista. Without the eye candy this thing is freaking fast
Running it on another latop from sony vaio VGN-SZ18GP. comes with a 7400m gs graphics card which is aero capable but only 512 mb of ram. Ran fine but lags some times with aero on. If i update the ram to 1gig then it will behave better.

Till now only the Sony vaio needed driver for the webcam and fingerprint reader. everything else was detected and installed all on its own.

LOL Windows 7 with 256MB of ram.

One issue I have found is a very wide problem with sound. It doesn't seem to work in games such as COD:WAW (though it has sound for the mission intros and at loadup, just not in game) and Ventrilo doesn't work, you can hear others but your input doesn't.

This thing looks like it could work (unlike Vista)...though I'll wait for the full version to be released (and wont upgrade immediately....I dont want to be unable to use some stuff that i can on XP).

Also for CoD WaW....well the sound is messed on all OS-es so its a prob with the game itself.

Sorry, missed this last time.

I only had this problem on 7 not XP. There is absolutely NO noise in game. This is not an issue with the game. Sound errors during loading was the issue.
