True, NASCAR stock cars are more akin to actual street legal cars, but how they appear on their sheet metal is where the similarities end. Underneath they've got a 700+ cubic inch big block V8 that is still fed by carburetor, and a solid axle out back. The frame of the car is rollcage (done for safety purposes), and the skin of the car is sheet metal. These steel boxes on wheels are shadows of the cars they used to be, because the cars they portray now have V6's and front wheel drive. When NASCAR first started, and especially during the musclecar era, the cars could be found on the street. Now, it's a completely different story.

LeMans '99 CLR Flip >> Kangaroos

i got a video of 1 of them cars doing that and flippin off the track into trees fucking amazing but id still prefer the roos though XD
lol didn't know nascars still ran carbies thought they would go direct injected and making a nascar is just weld some pipes to a car chassis and drop a whopping V8 in it and a bucket seat and there you have it a nascar XD

I question the general assumption that i am inherently deficient in the area of grammar and sentence structure

The CLR flipping off the track may look cool, but it did two things:

1). Killed the driver

2). Ended the Mercedes program for Le Mans in the LMP class (and if I remember right, out of Le Mans period).

Yep, NASCAR still uses old school techniques for throwing fuel on the fire. I believe the motors are still pushrod as well, which sort of boggles the mind as to how the NASCAR boffins are getting 700+ bhp from them (okay, the sheer amount of cubic inches does help...)

Actually, making a NASCAR is more complex than welding some tubing and a bed pan to a motor and trans. The cages have to be made in a specific shape so that all the stock cars are the same shape. This puts the "sport" more into the drivers' hands instead of the machinery. So you've got uniform shoe boxes with uniform air pumps running around an oval...oh joy. It used to be a car was taken from the factory, a roll cage was welded in and it was pretty much ready to battle Daytona and the score of other entrants. Then safety took the forefront as the cars got faster and more aerodynamic. This brought out the officials, which set about some ground rules and the sport changed, eventually representing what you can watch now. It's a bugger of a thing to try and watch, but if that's what you're into, then more power to you.

The driver survived the CLR flip.

The driver in the flipped CLR was Mark Webber. AFAIK he's alive and doing OK in F1 atm :P

The smooth underside reminds me of toy cars =O

Well then. Seems Mark hasn't lost his racing enthusiasm, though it does appear he's gotten more daring.

At any rate, we're making a right turn to this topic, when we should be making a left. What do you say we get back to NASCAR, yeah?

agreed. as an update to whatever fans are out here, Matt Kenseth wins due to rain. Junior knocked Brian Vickers around, and into Scr...Kyle Busch, taking the 18 car out of the race.

newman should have known teaming up with deu- i mean tony stewart would bring bad karma.

anywhoo, gordon and junior had the cars to win the race once bush was out. it's a shame it didn't get finished.

That's the other thing about NASCAR that's retarded. Other forms of racing have rain slicks. I know for a fact that Le Mans and F1 have them, so why can't NASCAR? I guess the good ole' boys don't believe in racing in the wet stuff.

well you know americans they love big and powerful things why do you think they drive F-150 with huge 6.2L V8 engines that are twin turbo why kill something just right when you can really kill it XD
but i cant really talk because id like nothing more than to drop a LS2 into my land cruiser and get a semi race gearbox XD
but back to nascar again i was watching the news and saw the smash they had on the daytona 500 that wiped pretty much half the field off lol

it's got something to do with the weight distribution. if they put rain tires on, the tread would be gone in a few laps

Another reason stock cars fail at being race cars. Picture a 300 lbs. man trying to run a marathon. Now imagine a 150 lbs. man trying to do the same thing. Who's going to have an easier go at the race?

I don't see what can be so entertaining in these oval track races. It's just too simple. Either they need to make the cars go so fast that they do wallrides around the corners at a complete 90 degree banking, or add some sort of a feature to break up the long, boring straights.

My only interest in Nascar is to watch things go from bad to worse as one car starts a 20-car pileup in the middle of the track. Otherwise, I'm changing the channel. I have more interesting things to do than watch cars go around in a circle 250 times in a row, though my personal preference is actually racing myself, whether it be video games or real life.

DTM is actually interesting to watch though. Mostly because the tracks include ones like Hockenheim and the tracks actually have left AND right turns, chicanes, increasing and decreasing radius turns and all sorts of other bendy, twisty bits.

Heck, Lorry racing is more interesting than NASCAR.

To add my two cents, at least for me:

NASCAR on TV is a snore-fest. Seeing it in person is a different story entirely.

As for my interests, I have to say that I'd watch WRC if it actually was on TV around here.
