There is a big difference between overpriced and expensive.

Overpriced means you are paying far more for something than what it is worth. Prime example and poster child for this is Bose, Sony comes in second.
Expensive just means it costs a lot, almost all of the audio Raptor and myself buy is actually worth the money we pay for it.

Spot on, but like everything you will need to appropriate equipment to pair with it. Junk in, junk out is the concept of audio, if the source is bad right from the start, good headphones, amp or DAC won't make it any better. So using for example a pair of SA5000 playing some mp3 128 won't make it sound any good.

Alright, let me put it this way :
- I've bought an MP3 player that I consider good, I like it's audio quality, and I've also bought a pair of earbuds which I find great.
- I don't need to have an expensive musician's equipment.
- I'll only be listening to V0 MP3 files, so I won't notice a difference whether I use this stuff or a high end equipment.
- You might find it overpriced, but it's actually one of the cheapest players I could find in France except for the Sansa ones which I don't like (I do care about design as well, don't want to carry an ugly player around)

I do not have the time or the bandwidth to get all my music in lossless format tbh, so I've decided I don't need the best in audio. I can say that I can't discern enough of a difference that the investment is worth it for me. I'd much rather put the money into a new lens or maybe an SSD for my PC.
