I wouldn't want to shave with it normally - it feels like my hairs are being pulled out by the machine, and it doesn't seem to shave nearly as smoothly as a normal razor can.
With all respect to your grandpa, but when an electric shaver pulls hairs or feels like that way, it means that the razors aren't sharp enough.

Me, I usually have a three-to-six-day beard because I'm too lazy to shave regularly. My weapon of choice is an electric razor (Philishave), mainly due to habit and laziness.
@Chyros
You should consider trying a new electric shaver - the old ones are quite crappy and it sounds like yours isn't in good condition.
Well it's a Philishave too (a 715, whatever that means) but yes, it's probably not in the best of condition. Like I said though, I'll probably stick mostly with shaving wet. The trimmer thingy on the electric razor will be pretty useful, though.

What the hell...
People, are you telling me that you can't shave yourself without foam/special watery-thingy/sth else?
What's wrong to shave in the way that you take a razor, shave yourself and just get through the shaved area with cold water?
People, you are overcomplicating...
I don't really need stuff like that but standing in a shower under hot water and using some shower gel as makeshift shaving stuff makes shaving much easier, reduces cuts, and shaves much more thoroughly.

I can't believe this has gotten to page two so soon

Why not? Everyone does or doesn't do it, so it applies to everyone, and I don't think anyone has ever asked anything like this before
