Check it out. From what I've been told, it's a website selling DVD collections of mods. They're using all sorts of content from a lot of mods, which they clearly don't have permission to use. Does anyone know what this is? And they're using a shitload of EC content, can anyone give us a little advice as to what our option are? Also, does anyone speak arabic (which I assume it's in) that could help us figure out what this is saying, more specifically?

All right, guy's selling a DVD with all the released mods he could ever found...
He just put his phone number and his e-mail for those who live in his country if they're interested in buying the DVD (from his shop)
There's no content of European Conflict, he's just saying that he's waiting for it to be released to add it (-_-)
And there's absolutely no way to do anything about it, he's living in Iran (he's using the old currency called تو مان toumen or something) and in that country, there are no anti-piracy laws
Also : The price for the DVD is around 3€, which means he's just making his customers the price of the unburned DVD plus the electricity needed to burn it.

EDIT : I could always try to send him a message to ask him to stop, but seriously, I personally know a shitload of such vendors and I know they don't give a damn about copyright or crediting the creators of mods, so I don't even think he'd answer...

I mean, the guy isn't even exporting them, nor selling them online, he's most probably renting a small garage and trying to get a living by selling some DVD's cause he's not found any job...

Before there was a guy selling individual models from EA's games. Why not try at least? If they don't care, then it's something we'll have to ignore I guess.

Actually, I've heard that EA has already tried to do something about piracy in Tunisia, but it failed as there are absolutely no laws about it here.
Heck, I've even seen a cop buying a non genuine copy of Office 2003 and XP once, and he told the vendor to give him a bill for it so that he could be refunded by the Police Station... D:

But yeah, I guess it wouldn't cost you much of your time to contact EA and tell them about it, I hope they do something about it, but I sincerely doubt it though

Btw EA wouldn't do shit about this, not now, not ever. Hell I think they are even actually banned from suing an Iranian Company atm.

I don't read Arabic (no surprise there ) and the translation isn't that good... but what does the terms and conditions of the host sight say? Maybe we could at least get his site/blog taken down. (not that would stop him from creating a new site, let alone selling the DVDs)

I can't read Farsi well, I'm just guessing the global meaning thanks to the resemblances with Arabic.

The first part says globally that every hosted website must comply to the laws of the Iranian 'Republic', and the Islamic religion (read : don't put anti-islamist content)
Second paragraph is about the reason for which the site exists : help you communicate your ideas with other peoples and that kinda shit...
There's a line where they're talking about the interdiction of putting immoral (read : porn) content.
Rest of the second part is juridical shit : The owners of the website can delete your site whenever they want and without reason, you're fully responsible of whatever you post on your site, they can sue you if they don't like the content, they have the right to bombard your inbox of spam if they want to, they'll fully cooperate with the Iranian government if the formers want to fish for information about you... Wow, I'm sooo interested into hosting a website with their service...

EDIT : Oh wait, they're mentioning it at the end : It's forbidden to post copyright breaching content on the website, and the owner could see himself sued if an actual company complains about it. No mentions of intellectual property though...

TBH, unless he's claiming ownership of the mods, which AFAIK he's not (I don't really understand what's happening regarding that part), I honestly do not find anything wrong with this.

All those mods are FREE TO DOWNLOAD anyway, he's basically charging for the DVD, and why would EA care? I seriously doubt they are losing money from this.

5 things that are seriously wrong:


1: Mods are MEANT to be FREE unless the mod author itself wants to sell it.

2: He's selling a mod pack WITHOUT THE MOD CREATOR'S PERMISSION.

3: He's selling COPYRIGHTED material without any permission.


4: He's selling a mod you worked hard for years and gaining profit from it.

5: All mods are that are FREE TO DOWNLOAD should stay that way.  Charging any fee from the mod without the creator's permission is plain illegal.

Even if the mod is "FREE TO DOWNLOAD", it is covered by the copyright laws. So, what he's doing is a copyright infringement and piracy since he's charging a DVD package without any permission from the mod authors themselves.

Well actually, after reading his website again, he's not including the games on the DVD, just the mods... Which means no copyrighted content, which means no harm to EA...
But I'm not sure about it, maybe Scope could confirm it. Damn farsi language, can't they speak Arabic like everybody else ? -_-

He's selling these for the price of the DVD. I doubt he makes more than $300 a month off his total sales. While I agree that it is unfair to see profit made off your work, there is nothing that can be done in countries like that (including where I live). They'll tell you "What will you do about it?" And it's true. No proper copyright laws here, or in Tunisia, or in most countries in the Third World means there isn't much to do about it. There's a reason there is no official Microsoft Xbox agent and support in Lebanon and piracy is it.

agree with kris. this man is really wrong selling mods that are free downloads. he is gaining profit from someone else (the modders) hard works.
It's like selling free anime fansubs on a pack of DVD.
