A couple of years ago when my hair was longer it was an absolute bitch to take care of. I'd wake up with it somehow pointing in 10 different directions completely defying gravity. I had to set time aside to sort it out, Also, it got in my eyes and poked against my ears. The physical irritation was made worse tenfold on windy days. Long hair supposedly looking better didn't outweigh the epic annoyance it caused me.
With short, cropped hair, it really is just wash and go. It's practical for all conditions and entails much lower maintance and physical irritation. Why do you think buzzcuts are compulsory in the military?
I normally don't rant about such petty issues, but I've never understood how people put up with it.
