Half-life 2 and Episodes Updated
Hobbesy 26 May 2010
And why does it warrant a thread you ask? Well, they now have Mac support. Of course, that only concerns AJ, and as we all know, he's a muppet.
I made this thread to bring to light the new achievements in Half-life 2 and Half-life 2: Episode 1. This means that the two games are now likely on the Orange Box version of Source.

That's good news . And of course, those are great games but, I don't have original HL2. I got only Episodes pack sadly.

As for the Orange Box version of the Source engine, Valve doesn't say anything about that they include it for all of HL2 series (atleast i haven't seen about it):
Update.
And im too lazy to try HL2 to see if it have been updated.
It would be great tho if they update all of em.

I've had a Mac since before AJ joined here, but that has been almost completely replaced by my new laptop since February. If I had the cash I would've got another Mac, but I'm a poor arse uni student.

Damn you Valve! Damn you!
Reasoning: They released the update while I was playing CoH and it automatically downloaded it. Basically people were raging for my lag and instead of having 1GB of internet free to DL im left with measly 300 now. Thank you very much for nothing!

You could've alt-tabbed and paused the DL
TehKiller 27 May 2010
IF I knew there was a DL at all...and I did actually alt-tabbed eventually only to get greeted by the message "607 MB update. Click to see the changelog"

Well it looks like I've got a good reason to reinstall the games now
You could've removed the option to download while ingame (if it still exists)

Indeed, I'm just more preachy nowadays....
It does run beautifully on the mac, btw.

It dies on the mac? I'm not suprised, source tech isn't exactly cutting edge, I would expect it to run on your overpriced mac
CJ 27 May 2010
The good man has a point there, I managed to get HL2 running on my old PC, which was not even capable of running some older games...

Yes, but it's been ported to a completely new engine, and yet it as crisp and as responsive as it has ever been. Valve have done a genuinely good job in the titles they've sofar ported (Portal pun anyone? No?). They're genuinely doing a good job of this, and not rushing titles out with visible bugs/glitches.

Tests on Anandtech show that the Mac ports aren't as good as the Windows version but the difference shouldn't really impede your gameplay.

So basically nothing changed? Mild disappointment. Though I guess I didn't expect anything to begin with, unlike the Lost Coast, which I hoped would've blown me away, but instead, done in 10 min.
Well, at least there's still the E3 'surprise'. I sure hope it's surprisingly good, and not surprisingly disappointing.

Lost Coast was never said to be a game, it's been presented as an additional level for HL² which use is only to give you some information about Source Shaders Technology. I don't see how you could've been excepting a thrilling game...
NergiZed 07 Jun 2010
I didn't expect a full game, I expected something like half a chapter.
What I got was... well... nothing much at all.

CJ 07 Jun 2010
Wait, why were you complaining already? The 'game' is free...
Also, if you took the time to read the infos about it before you've played it, you would've seen that it contained only one level (which is different from half a chapter ._.)

Lost Coast was really a graphical test for the updated HDR that came to Half-life 2 a few months after it was released. It also came with commentary to shed light on how VALVe works on games and designs levels for Source.
