It's a free FPS on the quake 3 engine. Obviously, this means the graphics are nothing to call home about, but they really aren't half bad, either. It falls somewere between Counterstrike, Call of Duty, and... well, Quake, in terms of gameplay. Sprinting is very quick, wall jumps are possible (to an extent), and the game moves *very* quickly. Action is almost constant, which is good. The realism I was comparing to CSS or CoD comes in the guns: you will go down quickly. Weapons are lethal and accurate (unless you fire continuously, in which case they become useless). There's no regenerating health: you can bandage yourself to stop bleeding, but injuries take away from your stamina (which does recharge, and is needed for sprinting and jumping). It's got the normal collection of modes, CTF, Team Deathmatch, FFA, and a CSS-type bomb mode, and a very active mapping community. Overall, it's quite a bit of fun to play, and I've been doing a lot of it lately :D.

EDIT: forgot to say, it's available (and works well) on PC, Mac, and Linux. And all can play with each other.

This looks like a ripoff from CS 1.6, mixed with a bit of unreal tournament.
Doesn't sound interesting for me, I'd rather play UT3 if I wanted such gameplay, at least it has better graphics than these...

Hmmm. It doesn't looks particularly visually impressive tbh, especially the weapons which look very blocky and badly textured (they should hire Pav3d :)) but I'll give it a try - it does SOUND good, after all :D .

If you're a bit of a gun nut, it can be a significant factor at least :D .

It's old, and I mean, OLD, and it uses the Quake 3 engine, what do you expect? Lightrays and fancy normal maps?!

Just saying... Besides, MW2 uses the Quake 3 engine as well :D .

The thing is, it doesn't play like UT3. It's fast paced like UT3, but there's definitely a more tactical aspect to it, because you don't last as long. You have to play it to understand, but it is a pretty unique play style.

Yeah, I know. That and the .50 Desert Eagle holding seven rounds. But in the end, it matters very little, because the game is fun, and when it comes down to that, the weapons aren't a big deal :D.

It's similar to how Generals and C&C4 both use SAGE. But the the end results are fairly different.

I lost many many hours in this game.

Can't play it anymore though, UT's (and CS's) twitchy action is just too much for me; I get mentally and physically exhausted after 3-4 hours of 'serious business' playing.

I think I'll just stay in my easygoing worlds of FPS-RPGs thank you very much.
