To be fair this is what I kind of figured would happen to Argentina, they're good, but I just feel they're lacking something. Interestingly, their right flank looked really, really weak. Against better teams they could really be in trouble down that side.
Note that they were never not in the lead after the sixth minute. I'm convinced that if Nigeria had somehow made an equaliser or had the first goal, Milito and Rodriguez would've been out faster and the Argentinians wouldn't've slacked so much. I maintain that if they had faced more opposition, they would've played better. As it is, they were apparently satisfied with a 1-0 for such an easy matchup.

I'm watching it at home, some of them with my house mates. I imagine all Brits will be at the pub for Eng v US though.

Well that was an abysmal display by England.

This is what Rooney was going for and failed.

England could have won that game, England should have won that game.
Green as such a butterfingers ir was unbelivable. Hell it was nearly 2-1 to the US if It didn't luckily get steered toward the post after Green's second failed catch attempt.

I'm slightl;y bladdered now and am going back to wow. Good day to you all.

Agreed - in fact I found myself actually wanting the US to win - partly because it would affect me less badly in my pool than a draw would, and partly because I didn't begrudge them the win (and let's face it, England did so badly it wouldn't have been completely unjustified if the US had won in the end anyway).

It was rather embarrassing to watch however i seem to be the only one who doesn't blame green for the draw.
Remember, every goalie has made a mistake at some point and he did make a great save in the second half.
I'm sure we all remember some of these errors courtesy of seaman and robinson.

We didn't look world class going forward either. Heskey did a good job as a target man but we didn't look massively threatening.

Didn't watch the first two games today. But I'm going out to a pub with some German supporters. I'll be there to make fun of them if they lose/draw :xD: Australia's chances don't seem too high if you ask me though.

Indeed, though I'd like them to win against Germany, even though I've bet against them.

Germans quickly start the Schwalbes already, how typical is that? Good, fast goal though.

Pretty dominant performance from the Germans although they were against a 10 man Australian side in the second half.
Not sure this says too much about how they will play in future although it will give them confidence.

Good play by Germany. Actually the first team to really pick up the role of favorites and mow the aussies off the pitch.

On the England fail. Well I couldn't be more happy. I have a little grudge against some english fans and media because of the way they still treat Steve McClaren and their absolutely ridiculous attention to a supposed ''accent''. Stupid fucking bunch of cunts. I have nothing against the team but only for these kind of 'fans' I hope england fails in the group stage.

The english team hasn't had a good impulse since Wayne Rooney, which is what it is lacking. You can't keep relying on old gits like Terry and Lampard, Gerrard or Ferdinand. The english team is an elderly flock, not good enough to keep up with the younger competitor. Its the names on the list that raise expectations but they all aren't too special anymore. After this cup, the entire team will retire. And if it is, likely, without said cup, what is England going to do? I think the few talents that are there, cue Shaun Wright Phillips. aren't exploited much. There are little replacements for all the key positions.

An early knockout would make england realize its not the coaches, rather the absence of fresh blood in the player pool that is breaking the team up. The same shit happened to the Dutch side in 2002, when we didn't make the World Cup with our aging player pool, who had reached their top in the semi-final place in 1998.

Germany on the other hand, shines while not really having very big names. However they are a 100 times more a team and play a lot better too. Power to the youth my friends.

The Aussie team has a whole bunch of hotheads obviously. Though they were outmatched to begin with, I'm certain that if the team had kept their cool more, the result wouldn't've been quite as devastating. Though I don't think the red was justified, I think Neill was somewhat lucky he didn't get sent off for showing disrespect to the arbiters.

They will play typically German: high on the offence, and aggressive in the play. This in contrast to any of the teams that have played so far bar South Korea: none were courageous enough to go on the offence. I don't think I'll ever live to see the day Germans are afraid to go on offence though. Luckily, this makes for very enjoyable games generally speaking.

I'm not entirely sure i agree here. We have a lot of quality players in our squad who would still walk into most squads anywhere.

Well that was interesting. The Danes accidentally put one in their own goal, the dutch's only real goal occured with 5 min left in the game. Good match, gonna watch the next two as well. (Japan vs Cameroon and Italy vs Paraguay)

Football is a silly thing, I got turned off it because of how every single team acts dirty and the fact most players are massive cunts. I do have something to say on England however. Their official slogan should be the top gear mantra - Ambitious, but Rubbish. I think its rather fitting.

Oh yeah, I fucking HATE those Vuvuzelas.. If your going to have something make a loud noise, it could at least be a pleasant sound..

When do you hear the name of Podolski or Mertesacker outside the national team? I would only call Lahm and Schweinsteiger real top players.

I'm not saying they are bad players, nor that it is a bad team. However the general 'rule' is that players are at their top in the second half of the twenties, which means this english team is over it and certainly isn't going to get any better than it currently is. As english press already stated, if this generation wants something they'll have to do it at this World Cup. After that, there is almost a black hole.

Anyway I think I can draw a parallel with the Dutch team today. They didn't perform well and the popular attackers from Arsenal and Real Madrid had trouble finding each other, it was pretty bad. Coach gets them out for two younger players who revive it a little bit and open up the game for a more exciting closing offensive.

England doesn't have this luxury or option, no new game changers if the stars fail to perform, so they have to perform.

Bleh, the Dutch did very disappointingly. Bad case of the slacks, and not the best team in IMO. If they had brought in Afellay and especially Elia (mark my words, a young wizard) earlier we could've made it more and wouldn't have had to rely on enemy goals to get through. Besides, Robben would've spiced up thing a bit as well, though with his injury it's not too surprising Van Marwijk didn't put him in yet. No sense in wasting a trump card just yet.

Japan won as I predicted :read: . Not the best match ever really, but still. Italy v Paraguay was a massive farce and the Italians a big disappointment to me. That one is gonna cost me points.

Well as it turns out, EVERYBODY in the pool had Italy down for winning so the most people got out of it was one point for betting 1-0 or 2-1, so in the end it doesn't really matter anyway 8| .

World Cup? Wutz dat? |8

Quote

As long as the dark foundation of our nature, grim in its all-encompassing egoism, mad in its drive to make that egoism into reality, to devour everything and to define everything by itself, as long as that foundation is visible, as long as this truly original sin exists within us, we have no business here and there is no logical answer to our existence.
Imagine a group of people who are all blind, deaf and slightly demented and suddenly someone in the crowd asks, "What are we to do?"... The only possible answer is, "Look for a cure". Until you are cured, there is nothing you can do.
And since you don't believe you are sick, there can be no cure.
