This is actually somewhat less crazy than the other ideas.

GLA Demo/Anthrax traps disguised as supply piles/UN Crates. They can still be revealed as bombs by stealth-detecting units.

Hm, rather than a demo trap, maybe it could be a mousetrap? Or a giant piano suspended in the sky, which drops when someone tries to collect the crate.

Those are cool. Although a think a straightforward trap would be a bit more surprising, and possible MORE crazy since nobody would expect something... reasonable.

A mousetrap that freezes units would be good, though. Speaking of which, did you ever go anywhere with my Liberator Tank suggestion?

Piano

That way it can make piano sounds when it hits the ground. You know the dissonant crash of keys I'm talking about. =P

A randomly generated object seems like a better bet.

I agree.

Why have just a piano when you can have everything? :P

I dunno. With such obvious traps you know that NOBODY is actually going to try and touch them.

You see a supply pile or UN crate lying around, chances are you're gonna go for it at some point. Then it explodes in your face. A good enough player might even discourage opponents from trying to search for other crates and whatnot.

make it so that when someone takes the crate, a piano rapidly falls down out of apparently nowhere :P

Why limit it to crates? Wouldn't it be better if a good part of the environment would be trapped? :P

That would work too. But with supplies you pretty much know that somebody is going to try and go after it, unlike trees and whatnot.

Not really, it's pretty obvious if there's random supplies in the middle of nowhere.

Well, what does it matter? I think that it will be stealth anyway, and that when its activated, you will see a piano falling down on top of your forces. This will actually look almost the same as a demotrap.
