World of Tanks

Ah, that does make sense (both the real-facts and game-facts about HE)... I guess I should buy half HE/AP loadouts so I can still do damage to the heavier things, if the situtation needs that
Funny, I never really thought of what being pummeled by HE shells would do to a tank... the things this game teaches to us
I suppose more modern tanks by now have better defences against the crew being shaken/equipment broken as "easily" as in WW2?
Oh, and nice VK indeed ^^

Modern tanks do. From reactive armour that directs the explosion outwards, to Israel's electronic defence net to detonates missiles before they even contact the tank. Other tanks, such as the Abrams sport an armour constructed of a metal and composite sandwich that is virtually impenetrable. The crew of a Challenger II survived repeated RPG attacks, and even though the explosions made for a loud noise inside the tank, the crew was never harmed and the tank's systems still functioned properly.

HE is extremely useful against higher tier tanks if you have a shitty ass lower tier. Basically every part of the tank has a certain amount of armor and if you can penetrate that part of the tank, you will destroy that part (basically...its extremely useful against tracks). If you are lucky enough you can score a penetrating HE shot at the ammo rack and most likely blow the thing to smithereens before he even figures out what happened.

So is getting higher-tier tanks basically going to be a grind-fest? because even with the daily gold infusion, me acquiring higher-tier tanks is gonna take an exponentially longer time period.
gonna get the T-28 tonight I think, but after that, it's gonna take more than one day to acquire the next tier of tank. I think it's gonna take months for me to get to IS-7. :(
Anybody here delve deeper into the crew and accessories systems? Seems like complicated stuff that almost forces you to specialize in a single tank once you start putting down investments.

Like any MMO, grinding is part of the game. Keep in mind that with the T-28, you'll get taken out fairly quick, even though the T-28 can mount a cannon that deals with tanks a few tiers higher than its armour will allow. Unless you play an obscene amount of matches a day, it'll take more than a day to move through the higher tier tanks. It might take you a solid month to move 3-4 tiers, and most of that will be because you get taken out within the first minute or so of combat.
One word of advice I do have is when you have the option to give your crew members skills, do NOT give them firefighter. Being that this is still a beta, the firefighter skill is bugged and instead of preventing fires, actually makes your tank that much more prone to catching fire. Other than that, I'd suggest repair or camo.

I guess you get to assign new skills at some point. (Maybe 75% competence level?)
Regardless, I'm currently doing muti-battling. I go into a game, rush or flank, get off a few shots and maybe a kill or two and generally die, quite out and use another tank. I think the most I've done is have 4 tanks 'in battle' (being dead) at the same time. Not that that's good or anything, but it's always more efficient to multi-task.
I still trying to get through the game without any accessories. Quick Q on that though; can you 'dismount' an accessory (camo for instance) and give it to another tank to use? or are they tank-specific?

Some modules are tank specific and can not be dismounted. There's a message that should come up when you click to buy the item that should tell you if it stays on the tank or not. When I bought the rammer for my IS, I received a message that said it could not be dismounted.
You only get to assign crew skills at 100%. The crew's competence of that skill goes up to 110%.
Remember, different tanks require different tactics, so rushing or flanking may be good for one tank, but it may not be the best for another. Try hanging back in your base a bit more and see if you last longer or get more kills.

I actually think I'll give this game another try, seeing as how many FS players there are. Would be nice to team up with some of you guys in-game

I'm always looking for some tankers I know and would be more than happy to be in a Platoon with fellow FS'ers.

Does anyone here know if The_hunter plays this? Because I contributed greatly to a guy named The Hunter's death (his name had some variation and some numbers behind it both of which I won't mention).
He was an SPG, I took out 70% of his HP with one shot, rammed him then we both died in a glorious ball of fire from the resulting counter-artillery strike and the barrage from their frustrated base defenders.
Also, I'm getting a hang of my tanks. I think I'm beginning to realized that I have absolutely no hope of doing any significant damage to enemy Medium or heavy tanks in my T-28. The best that I can do is is attempt to get into a pack of rushing units, get experience by discovering enemy SPGs and hopefully do some damage.
I really want one of my matches to be where I'm the biggest baddest tank on the field and the enemy team just realized they don't have any artillery. I would enjoy that. (One of my roommates was playing this game and watched the last tank on his team, a KV-3, destroy the rest of the enemy team, with 9(!!!) kills.
This made my friend happy not only because he won, but also because he was second on his team with 3 kills)
Hope the Beta can incorporate some clan features soon, I really want to play some matches with my roomates and be on the same team, same goes for all ye FS'ers out there.

I don't know if Hunter plays WoT, but I can tell you that your T-28 is really thin-skinned. If I remember right, you've got about 15mm's of armour separating you from incoming rounds, which in this game, you might as well have a piece of paper. It's best if you hang with a group of heavy tanks and attack from the sides or rear while their target is distracted.
You can play with your roommates, but you won't be in a "clan". You'll need to create a platoon. The only downside here is that you can only be in a platoon with 3 other people (for a total of 4). Still knowing 3 people on your team is better than not knowing anyone.
What's your WoT tag?

NergiZed.
I already added, which just shows how absolutely useless the contact system is at the moment.
Edit: My T-28 has 20 mm all round besides the frontal hull armor which is 30, but yeah, it's been kinda shitty so far. I've had much better luck with my lower tier T-48. Hopefully when I get my KV I can branch off to that delicious looking S-51 SPG.

Cool, hardcore mode
1. Hardcore battles - a special mode of tank battles, made specifically for fans of realism.
2. This battle mode may be used in all the battle types:
• In random battles.
• In team battles.
• In championships.
• In historical campaigns.
• In championships.
• In clan wars.
3. The most important feature of the Hardcore battles is absence of HP. It means that the shell penetrating vehicle does not reduce the HP. Damage is dealt to the modules and the crew.
4. Calculations are made by the current algorithm with the following exception. When the shell hits a module - 100% critical damage is dealt, when crew is hit - 50%.
5. Another important feature is a possible reduction or disabling of penetration "randomization".
6. Hardcore battles will not have expendables (repairkits and aidkits) and the repair time will take longer than in standard battles - from 15 to 30 seconds.
7. The number of premium ammo in the Hardcore battles might be limited, meaning it will be limited by % of the total ammo capacity.
8. Tank in the Hardcore battles will be destroyed only after the ammo explodes or after the death of the crew.
9. Destroyed tanks will be blocked (you won't be able to enter another battle) for some time or for some number of battles played on other tanks.
This mode is still in the development stage.

Wish I can play this but my specs...they are not ready.
Otherwise you'll see a tier-1 Rusian tank going subversive and sneaking to the rear of enemy divisions, the after scoring a hit goes kamikaze to the center, making chaos with cross fire.
But good game idea and aspects.

Not sure how this will work out in the actual game, but hardcore mode sounds promising enough. Then again............artillery will be even more of a pain.

@Kris: That is a worrying coincidence, however humourous it might be, lol.
@R3ven: No need to use this thread to alert those you've been playing with about what happened during the game mate. We've a perfectly good PM system for that exact purpose.

Got KV-3, huuuuuggeee money sink at the moment, but my maxed out KV (bobblehead turret and 152mm marshmallow cannon) has got a kick-ass crew and is making me mundo cash. Now that I actually use that tank, I can hopfully get a S-51 aka Moon Cannon some time down the line.
Also, I am filled with happy after reading TPAM. I'll enjoy the new maps, clan wars, no more tanka-port, 1st match double xp and better platoon/matchmaking, but prolly not care about the new US tanks UNLESS they add this:
