Michael Bay and the producers of Transformers 3 could be in a world of hurt, though probably not as much as Gabriela Cedillo, a twenty four year old Chicago bank teller hospitalized yesterday after an on set accident left her with serious head injuries.

According to both the LA Times and Deadline, Cedillo was working on set as an extra when a stunt sequence went badly wrong. This would be bad enough but making it even worse are reports that Cedillo - very definitely NOT a trained stunt performer - was involved in a stunt sequence at the time, according to one report having been paid a measly twenty five bucks to allow her car to be hooked up to a cable rig that was towing her car through an elaborate action sequence when the cable snapped and smashed through her windshield while the car smashed into the concrete median barrier wall on the highway where they were shooting. Initial news reports tell the story of where Cedillo was at the time of the accident slightly differently but given that they'll have gotten their information from a paid publicist attached to the film while the Deadline report came from an anonymous witness on set, I'm a bit more inclined to believe Deadline's account.

"Preliminary investigation revealed that shortly before 7 p.m, the movie crew was filming a stunt using numerous vehicles and drivers,” authorities said in a statement. “During this stunt, an object struck a 2006 Toyota, hitting the vehicle, and then went through the windshield hitting the driver.”

Her car in turn plowed into a median barrier wall and continued on about a mile before coming to a halt.

A local ABC affiliate identified the victim as 24-year-old Gabriela Cedillo and quoted a fellow extra as saying she had been injured by a tow cable that came loose.

“The vehicle was being towed by another vehicle,” extra Blaine Baker told the station. “The cable between the two vehicles broke. It whipped around and sliced through the woman’s car and sliced through her skull, apparently.”

The equipment pertaining to the stunt was impounded by the Indiana State Police. The victim was airlifted to a local hospital and is currently in critical condition.

This could end the movie production, hopefully not, and definitely not the woman's life.

A serious accident indeed, although...why should this end production? Movies in the past have had accidents nearly as serious as this and have still carried on. Perhaps the fact that extras aren't being paid too much is a factor.

Saw this on /toy/, it was basically a freak accident. it was a fairly tame stunt compared to various other stunts planned.

Indeed. It's good that the woman is alive, and $25? Michael Bay certainly has gotten cheap recently. :|

That's a fairly cheap fame seeker.

Thatbsaid, I'm glad she wasn't killed. I could care less for this movie tbh but I certainly can't see it getting any worse. Unless Bay pulls off an "Airbender"

Yes, she isn't killed, but she's in critical condition. Anything could happen but honestly I still want the production to continue, though at this point in time the main concern is on the woman.

I thought in the video they said this was the last day of shooting. It will depend on the seriousness of the injury whether it will damage the release.

But 25 dollars? How super cheap. That is just abusing the desire of those people to appear in hollywood blockbusters. Transformers makes millions from mindless hollywood fans. This number and the lack of other administration regarding these extra's may hurt Bay more than the actual accident itself...

I'll be honest. Someone offers me $25 to use my car in a film where I know it's possible for a stunt to go wrong (and with my luck, it would), I'd refuse. Honestly. $25 is barely enough to put half a tank of petrol in my car. Not to mention the fact that $25 is nowhere near enough to pay for damages. Minimum wage to be an extra? Ugh. Every time I've been an extra in a film, I've not made less than $200 for the day.
